I'm a Canadian/US dual citizen. I'm hoping to come to Saba for my medical degree. Since I have dual citizenship, would I be eligible for applying to residencies in both Canada and the US? If I do end up doing my residency in Canada would I be able to practice in the US? What are the possible roadblocks? Thanks

Foreign residency usually doesn't fly in the US. Probably your best bet for keeping both practice options open would be to complete a US residency (making sure that it is of the same length as the corresponding residency in Canada). There are probably more details about this in the VMD forum, however. You are in a good spot as a dual-citizen, at least!

Actually it depends on the specialty you are going for. Canadian residency programs tend to be longer with the exception of family medicine.

I'm Canadian and I know how many Canadian doctors go south. The numbers are boggling. You're going to have a much higher chance of landing residencies in the USA than Canada.

You would have no problem practicing in the US coming from a Canadian residency with the possible exception of family medicine. However, you will probably have a hard time getting a Canadian residency in the first place.
