I don't usually post here, but I just received "the call" from financial office and I think as a student I must say couple of things.
For current students, I really think that there is no more excuses. School is CLEARLY on the right path, I met Dr J when I was on the island studying for step and I know that he is the best teacher when it comes to Path. I also heard that Dr C from Saba also is going to be at statia (It might be a rumor, dont hold me accountable) and I think all these clearly point to the fact that our school is passing the hard times and clearly is on the right path. I think admin gets my respect for that cause like many other there were time that I was second guessing my choice.
I think now school need to pay a little more attention to the 5th semesters as I think that is one class that need the most attention and is not getting much and step 1 results are clearly a sign of that. I personally had to take 6 months off (I did really well, but still), and I know alot more students are taking that long and to be honest both student and faculty is to blame (its obv so no reason to elaborate!)
future students, k, there is other schools out there and everyone has something to offer that other doesnt. all i can say is that if u asked me a year ago i might have told u to look somewhere else. But right now, i know u can not get a better path or psych teacher than the one in statia. Dr J is abs the best that there is out there. As for clinicals, this school is VERY VERY flexible and offers alot more help than any other school. I have lots of friends from Saba and have made some friends from Ross and since our school has smaller number of students, we get alot more freedom in choosing our sites. I am doing ALL my rotations in Chicago, I have a year lease and no need for extra costs of travelling. I truly believe that this school is the best when it comes to offering clinical sites.
K let the debate begin. Just one note: FS ur word dont mean shiat, so just dont post here cause nothing positive ever comes outte ur mouth about this school. If there is any future students that want any more info on statia, i d be more than willing to help u guys out.
All the best

It is confirmed. I spoke with him directly and he confirmed it. He is starting at Statia this semester.

Between Dr. J and his wife and Dr. C, Statia is well on its way to becoming a top-tier Caribbean school. I am still happy with my decision to transfer from Saba. Quite a bit that was good about Saba when I started there has come to Statia.

Congrats on your Step 1 Yashar! You worked hard and you deserve it.

That's a nice word from a 'doctor's' mouth. I bet you are real professional in your clinical rotations too, huh?
So...where are these loans you were crowing about?
Where is the 'shiat' (your words) now? (check your short white coat)

Welcome to Statia, compaq (don't worry...you'll get in). Ignore the negative talk about the school. Some people may have bad experiences, but for the most part students like it here. Faculty is getting better and the new dean has done great things over the last two terms. There's a lot to improve on but for the most part, the school is on the right path.

Passing has increased from 60 to 70% so expect to work hard once you get here. I started when it was 60 and know a lot of my classmates got screwed over. The work is hard but doable, the island boring but you'll get used to it and time flies. There's no financial aid so I hope you have some way to cover the first few terms. The class sizes are small if not smaller than they used to be...this past Sept. class only has 20 students or so (should have been huge).

Like yashar said, the USMLE first time pass rate is not that great, but with the changes the new dean has made to the curriculum, it should start to get better with the current 5th termers and beyond.

Thanks , if i payed attention to all the negative talk on this web, i would end up with no medical education. in my opinion ,every school has negatives and positives. you just need to be informed of the negatives before attending the school and have a plan to overcome these negatives and take advantage of the positives. weather i get accepted or not , i wish the school and all its students good luck and keep up the good work.:clapover:
