I am planning to attend UCE on January. I was on campus last week and it seem like a rough neighborhood. And the Hotel was 5 minutes drive from campus. Where to live while studying at UCE ? walking distance from campus?
Will I have the opportunity to do a clinical rotation in Florida?
Do they prepare you for the USMLE?
Is there a bank near campus?
Should I bring any books or equipment? Is there a place where I could buy equipment?
Thanks for your comments..

Where to live while studying at UCE ? Apartahotel (10 min walk from school), or any number of other apartments in the immediate area. Price range apx. $100 - $600 depending on what you are looking for. You will find alot of advertisements in the INternational office, as well as posted on the walls of the campus.
walking distance from campus? The majority of the apartments/ dwellings are within walking distance to campus. However, keep in mind that if you start at the 5th semester or higher, your anatomy based classes will meet across town. In that event, you WILL have to take a car or mototaxi to reach there.
Will I have the opportunity to do a clinical rotation in Florida? From my understanding, as told by a physiology professor, yes. However, I am not sure that the rotation is greenbook.
Do they prepare you for the USMLE? Use Najeeb, Kaplan videos, etc. People from la UCE do Pass, even if they don't share their experiences...
Is there a bank near campus? Best bet is inside the Supermarket Plaza- Jumbo. Inside there are 2 banks: Banco Popular (Puerto Rican based) as well as BanReservas (Dominican National Gov't bank). Additionally, inside Jumbo you will find all the dominican cell phone carriers: Viva, Orange, Claro, as well as Dominoe's Pizza, Money Exchange businesses, nail salons, Insurance carriers and Ice Cream shops.
Should I bring any books or equipment? NO!!!! {It is my personal opinion that no books should be brought with one's self to the DR} All the materials for your classes are photocopied - quite an industry. Additionally, any medical text can be purchased from stores in Santo Domingo for VERY discounted savings, as also photocopied and bound. Do yourself a favor and save on the weight limitations by bringing ONLY a laptop, and perhaps a few small (less than 100pg books down). The majority of books can be found via .pdf and discounted or Free.
Is there a place where I could buy equipment? I don't know what you mean by equipment.

Hope this helps.

The application can be easily downloaded from the website:

http://www.uce.edu.do/docs/Formulario%20de%20Admisiones.pdf

Be sure to either bring it in person, or FedEx, as things mysteriously go missing from the la UCE International Office.
