Our first year of residency is over and i wanted to check on how my fellow Saba class of 2008 graduates are doing?

I never thought i would feel nostalgic about the Rock but I miss everyone so much. Everyone let eveeyone know how you are and how your internship year was.

Has anybody met up recently?

Good for you for having loyalty to The Rock. I hope you are able to re-connect with former fellow students. Unfortunately, and with no explanation, President C. recently expressly forbade the creation of a SUSOM Alumni Association by the student SGA. In fact, that ought to be a new thread: Why would the university president forbid the creation of an alumni association?

why would this be? I would think an Alumni association would be a fantastic idea. In fact, I assumed we already had one! any reason behind this?

No reason given. Probably because the new president didn't think of it himself, so it can't be a good idea.

The process is so hard that I wish we could have others Saba alumns to hook us up or prefer us which gives us a better chance.

We should write the prez and tell him thats b.s.

Or we should make our own list and group. Anyone heard anything about anyone? Any couples still together or anyone kicked out of residency?

Anyone hangin out in other cities?

Along the same lines, I noticed that alumni email addresses for alumni willing to answer student's questions are no longer available on the new Saba website. I sent President C. an email about the omission. I told him I found it invaluable before applying to Saba, and then again before applying to residency to ask Saba alumni questions. They were always friendly and happy to help, which I think is a big strength of Saba.

I think Saba is really missing out on a lot if alumni are excluded from helping, networking with each other and students, and generally making the school more visible in a positive light within the medical community.

I can't agree more.

I couldn't agree more. I also received some great info and feedback from a saba alum before I applied to the school.

saba is known in areas where we have a stronghold of rotations but in other places PD's haven't heard about Saba....having strong contacts, and connections is always a plus when applying for residency and Saba needs to bring back the alumni!

I guess the valuemd saba forum could technically be the informal alumni network for saba students. i was wondering if there is any sort of mentorship program at saba for new students where a first years are grouped/assigned to a second year student to help with tips on surviving on the island for the 20 months.

It's too bad that they nixed the idea of an alumni group.. I think some semesters have created facebook pages for their class, but I'm not sure of any formal reunions... It's funny how much you miss the "Rock" and the friendships you formed once you leave..
