Hello, I am a senior biology student with 6 units left for my degree.
I was accepted to a MBBS program in China. The thing is, I have to leave this october ( during my last semester), If I choose to not take this opportunity I will have to wait one whole year for the class intake again.
I am an american citizen and if I go get a MBBS, all I have to do is pass the USMLE.

Should I take this offer or finish my B.S ? I know that a B.S has no relevancy to mbbs and is recognize as a MD in the US.

ADVICE !!! please ...thank you

Finish your **. If you have one semester left just finish it. i completed my ** in Biology. by the way what school will you be going to in china? There are some schools whos programs are new, i have heard many bad stories. there were some students that transfered to TMU from other schools.

you will have to do more than just pass the USMLE, you will have to score a very high score. the majority of schools in china will only prepare you for about 30% for the USMLE. the style of teaching, testing, and learning, is different from the US. the rest you will have to do it on your own. I spoke with the vice dean of TMU, they are in the process of setting up USMLE step 1, and 2 courses. Nothing has been finalized. also you should be aware that language is a real big problem, for the first two years, expect to spend a considerable amount of time learning it.

i had some confusion as to the degree that is given. i talked to a school adminstor about this and students that have just graduated. the Degree that is given to the chinese students is a medical bachelors degree, the international students get the same degree as the chinese students which is a medical bachelors degree in the chinese language. this chinese language degree must be translated into english.

in chinese language the degree says yi xue, when this is translated, it means clinical medicine. or bachelors in clinical medicine

for the students that will be going back to india and the other subcontinent countries, it is translated into an MBBS by the local chinese notary department. the countries from the subcontinant, the degree that is recognized is an mbbs. the ecfmg web sight indicates that the degree that comes from china should be a medical bachelors degree or bachelors in clinical medicine (please double check). you should just be aware of this when it is time to translate the degree to english.

I would also advise that you finish your Bachelors. It keeps you safe in the future should anything unforseen happens.

Best of luck!

Do more research because as of last year California does not recognize the MBBS program..if you don't care about California then check with the state you wanna practice in the future. Some states require a bachelors degree prior to med school for licensure purposes. Hope this helps.

I am not too worry about the Chinese language because I can speak it and I have a diploma from graduating Chinese school. I am really confused on the bachelor of clinical medicine part. I have read that MBBS = MD ( after finishing residency). And I have also gone to the California medical board approved schools website and most of the english medium schools are approved by California.

I think it is very unwise of the school if after spending 6 years and graduating with a medical degree and having them put some nonsense in your diploma.
Also, I can virtually gone through every website there is to find do research on schools but it is very limited things out there. Many agencies have contacted me and offering me enrollments.

Are there any schools that you guys would recommend ? , I know Fudan is the best but they take like 30 students a year. Or should I consider other places?

I would recommend finishing your Bachelors, as well. Then you always have something to fall back on, and you'll have more background/experience (if anything should go wrong in the future).

Also, it's always a good idea to look at more than one school. It's just good having backup. If you look through this forum, I know a lot of other people mention other schools, as well. You can read through the comments and see what people who attend the school feel about the programs.

Good luck!

I don't know if this question sounds dumb, but is there any way you could finish your bachelors later? maybe during vacations or something like that? anyhow, you've come this far..... it definitely is a good idea to complete your degree somehow. or maybe you could just finish it and wait it out until next year with a really clear idea of what you plan to do, where you plan to go, etc.....
