residency match list

Hi!... my question is about the residency match list? i have no idea what that is? is that how the school matches people to a residency position? :confused: ... and what do you need to have in order to get a desired residency position in the US?

Residency match list, shown by the school is students who graduated who have gotten a residency in american hospitals, it shows that a schools curriculum is very good and that they provide you with the knowledge you need to pass the USMLE (medical licensing examinatino)...

residency is required by all states in order to give you a licence to practice medicine independently, residencies come in family medicine, internal medicine, emergency etc...

In order to get a residency, you must be a graduate of a medical school, which means you must complete two years of basic science + two years of clinical science, and must pass the USMLE...

to get a residency of your choice, you should score very well on the USMLE (well in the 90's, and have very good letters of recommendation from clinical sites you worked in and more)

but on the other side though,, if the match list shows the people who graduated and got he resiidencies in the US.. then how come the caribbean school's match shows about 15 people only? what happens to other people? did they not get the residencies? what are some of the things you can do to avoid being in that position? because it would be my nightmare!

Which caribbean school are you talking about? Most of the people who make it through to graduation seem to match...it was really crowded on graduation day last May!

Thanks,, it did help breathe a little bit.. it's just that this is such a big deal. my life depends on it. plus i don't want to waste time spending all that money and how the hell are you suppose to start paying back.. if some problem occurs getting your residency or soemthing!

i am not backing out or anything.. medicine is actually a thrill for me! just want to inform myself from all possible sides... other info is more than welcomed,, thanks again!
