Hi all, well I'm heading out to Oakland for my next rotation, one month only and am having a hard time finding housing, any suggestions on locations to check out (since I'm not from the area) or people to contact? I've used the hospital list already and only one person got back to me but she was unfortunately filled already for my stay time. I'll be rotating there August 17 - September 11, any help? thanks!

Hi,
Not sure if you already found anything, but I can suggest a few areas to check out -preferrable if you have a car though:
Rockridge -near Berkeley, lots of shops restaurants walkable area.
Lake Merrit -probably a bit closer to Highland and also walkable area with good access to public transit. The same can be said for Rockridge. Lake Merritt has a GREAT farmers market on the weekends year round.
Montclair - in Oakland. Charming little area with lots of families. A little less lively at night than the above two, but chill. Not as much access to public transit as Rockridge and Lake Merritt, but should be pretty close to Highland.
Oakland Hills/Mills College Area - Oakland Hills tends to have more upscale homes, but sometimes people are renting out rooms in their home, or like an "in-law" style studio/apt. on their property. Not sure if that would interest you, but also, the area is close to the hospital.
Hope that helps!

sweet, thanks for the help! still don't have a place to live, but I'll definitely check out these areas, that's what I was worried about b/c I don't know the city, glad you made some recommendations. I'll be driving down, it'll be nice to have my truck back after 1.5 years of riding subways in NYC!

Kananaskis girl, for Oakland housing, you can check sfbay.craigslist.org and go to sublet/temporary in apt/rent section.
Good luck.
