Question Re: SGU policy and doing out of network (away) rotation during 3rd year.
Can we do 4 weeks of core rotations (ie. Internal Medicine) out of net work during 3rd year?
If NO, and all core rotations during 3rd year must be done at affiliated hospitals, can we take 4 weeks off and do an away elective as Medicine and use those 4 weeks towards our 4th year requirements?

All cores have to be done at affliated hospitals. Plus, you'll never be allowed to break up a core and do a portion of it at another hospital.
Yes, you can do electives during third year, if you can accomodate it in your schedule. Most clinical centers schedule your entire 3rd year at the beginning, including 6 weeks of an elective (FM, rads, etc.) for you. This will span your entire 3rd year. The school does not allow you to change your core rotation schedule, you're stuck with what they give you.

Yeah I guessed it is something like that. What if you are placed at multiple hospitals and not at one core hospital?

Even then, the school controls your rotation sched. They might be a little more lenient and ask for your preferences. Just don't try to change your core rotation sched on your own. I've heard horror stories of people having reprimand letters placed into their files for trying to switch their cores around.

Also, you can't do rotations at unaffiliated hospitals until all of your core rotations are done...

Oh that is too bad. Just when UofT dropped their 4th year students only can do electives.
This year is the first year that even 3rd year students can do electives at UofT (4 weeks maximum). We can do electives as 4th years as well (4 weeks max). but only between January 1 and June 30)... aka after CaRMS deadline and probably after all interviews are done and decided. Useless.
So I guess this benefits Saba Canadian students!
