I'll be starting at Fatima in September as an International student (I'm from California) and would like to hear first-hand from current students what they think about the school and curriculum, and if you know of any students who have successfully began their 4th year in the States. Also, is there a Freshman orientation? Is the International class mostly Fil-Ams? Any information would be greatly appreciated! :D

I'll be a freshman this sept too. im currently here in the philippines and visited the school. the students there that are in the foreign class seem to like it. i'm excited. from what i've seen, not all the students are fil-ams either. See you in fall. there's an orientation the first day of class (Sept. 1st). also make sure u double check when ur arriving here in the philippines because of H1N1 u have to self quarantine yourself for ten days in the philippines before arriving to the school. just a heads up.

I like the special class myself...there are lot of reasons I said so. There are pros and cons of every school but being someone who is aiming of going back to Californi and practice in the future- i think i like where I am right now..you have to be here 10 days prior to your class start date because the university is imposing the 10-day q rule..
Good luck..

How much for tuition if I was to use FAFSA? Being a Philippine grad myself, would they charge me more if I use FAFSA?

Anyone first year med school students entering OLFU special class this sept. 2009?
I really want to get to know some people before school starts, so it alleviates some butterflies I've been feeling with this big move.
I will be in PI for 8/6/09-8/17/09. I thought all schools started in June so I thought I missed the year coz UE was my first choice. Now, I have to hustle and get my accomodations taken care of.

Ochid 17,
With that 10 day rule...does this mean that I can't visit the school at all?
~
I don't know where I'll be staying...any suggestions? I'm contacting the OLFU and ask for Josie. Btw, what state are you coming from? I'm from Florida. PM me on facebook under Rochelle Avery.
~
I really have more questions about this whole thing than answers. Have you already visited the school?

Sactoboy,
I was going over some older valumd threads and one dating on 2/09 where you made a fil-am post warning fil-ams to not attend OLFU for bottomline reason that they are "scammers" in relation to admin being all about the money. Now, you are in OLFU....your old post was a very scary warning, so what made you decide to still attend OLFU. The recent posts you have is for students currently and pending attendants of the school..can you pls explain.
Maybe, I never saw your thread explaining the duplicity?
Thanks!

Warning to the public especially Fil-Am's wanting to go to Fatima:
- First of all I would like to state that I had been so interested going to this school because I learned that they offer core clerkship in the USA. After doing my thorough researc, reading all posts in this forum, and talking to the school myself I came out with a conclusion that I AM NOT GOING TO FATIMA for the following reasons:
- I found a website stating that tuition fee for first year and 2nd second year= $20, 0000.00; 3rd year to Fourth Year= $32,000.00. What the....what are they thinking? Someone can go to Ross, SAba, St. George (all CA approved) with a better education and clinical training without spending this HUGE amound of money and even when you spend this amount of money over there it will be worth your money if you know what I mean....
- I contacted the shool several time, people are rude, and they will not give you any information regarding tution fee....people over there need to be trained on phone et....101 (if you know what I mean)...they keep you waiting for long periods while they know its long distance call!!!
- so the public may know.... that I finally got in touch with my friend who is a graduating student of FU- you need to take the a revalidation examination prior to graduation with the cost of 3,5000.00 per take,,,,keep paying until you pass...they were issues rergarding clerkship to0....SAD- THIS IS ONE OF THE REASONs WHY PEOPLE WOULD EVEN CONSIDER GOING THERE.
- so THE public may now.... that UERM has established a clerkship program in the US as well...you don't have to be robbed like Fatima will....would you imagine a school who won't disclose tuition fee to an interested student....alll schood website has the tuition fee disclosures....try calling FU they won't tell you the real tuition fee...
- so the public may know....that as long as your school approves it..youi can do your clerkship in the USA at you own expense....not as expensive as Fatima...if not...you can do your externship here after graduation just to get the LOR for the match...so what's the big deal about spending all your dollars for Fatima?
-lastly, I really thank all of you who give me the idea to be suspcious about this school...I think it is my moral obligation to let you know what I've found.
Also, I have more info from my friend who is a current student of FU.. Please PM me if you wish.
Everybody....run away from this school....

Hi Sactoboy,
This is the old post that I found from another thread, in regards to your warning.
My bad on the 2/09....you posted this on 2/08, so that maybe the reason why you were unable to locate.
Anyhow, I would like to know what made you change your mind after a strong post/review on your OLFU findings.
Thanks again,
Rochelle

To Rochelle,
So that was in 08. I have not started med school in Fatima yet at that time. I was in your situation busy researching about med schools in the Philippines. You will never know the real deal unless you exprerience the school yourself. Like what I said before dont listen to people....do your research and then make the decision for youself and for your life...good luck...see you:)

Thanks...well..I am (about decision about my life)...I only questioned it coz I saw variable posts.
But, I guess, it's not that bad since you're @ that school. It just adds reassurance. That's all. I'm sure you can relate to that. The fear of the unknown. Hope to meet you soon, I will be leaving on 8/6/09 to PI. I hope there are some nice dorms left.
TTYL, Thanks!

Just wondering if you can give me at least 5 reasons why you decided to go to Fatima instead of the other medical schools. 2nd are you planning to practice in the USA? 3rd how much is there tuition?
Thanks

Good luck ! I'm hoping to start next year in the same school, I'm from midwest but originally from the Philippines. How was the application process and are you using FAFSA loan? Do you also know anything about this special class for Int'l students?

Hello! Does anyone have detailed information about loans and how they are disbursed? Is Fatima participating in Federal Grad Plus as well? I know they participate in the Federal Stafford loans but unsure if they do with Federal Grad Plus as well. ANy info will surely help. I am accepted for this incoming class, however, I am hesitant due to finances. I have a mortgage here I will be leaving and I cannot allow my folks not be taken care of as they live in my home. Any advices, suggestions, recommendations? All welcome.

A. Fatima will take you as long as you have a Bachelor's degree and an MCAT. They are not particular about science units.
B. Philippine schools have another test called NMAT (MCAT not required)
1. As I said, you need to take NMAT (for Phil. schools) not MCAT.
2. I don't think any Phil. school will publish any data on GPA's but I guess it would be low as they take almost anybody with Bachelor's degree or NMAT.
3. I have no idea as you have to talk to their administration. As a foreigner, Fatima will probably be the most expensive option among Philippine schools but still less than Caribbean schools.

Most Philippine schools start on June. Fatima I think has a special class that starts in September. NMAT is currently being given every November (application is June to Sept.??). So you might start med school 2010 or 2011 depending on the date of your Bachelor's degree.
Philippine schools don't require experience or volunteering or ECs.
As I said admission is not difficult in many Phil. schools. Except for the more competitive schools like UP, UST or CIM many will take you.

So you are saying i must get my degree first? (which will be class of 2011)
1- then do i have to take the NMAT ?
-if yes when?
2- If i want to start in sept. with the special class what must i do?

Take the NMAT November 2010 and if you graduate spring of 2011, you can get in many schools there as long as you apply early like Mid 2010. I'm not from Fatima so better check your info with them or other students from Fatima.
