As of May 20, the ECFMG no longer accepts notarized 186 forms if the medical school is not electronically registered with ECFMG. Here is the more information from the ECFMG:
'On or about May 20, 2009, ECFMG will modify the USMLE application process and the process for requesting Step 1/Step 2 CK eligibility period extensions for international medical graduates.
Once this change takes effect, ECFMG will not register an international medical graduate for USMLE, or extend his/her eligibility period, before receiving verification of the applicant's status as a medical school graduate directly from his/her medical school. This status will be verified in one of three ways:
* ECFMG receives primary-source verification of the applicant's medical education credentials; or
* The medical school verifies the applicant's graduate status through the ECFMG Medical School Web Portal or
* The medical school verifies the applicant's graduate status through the applicant's Certification of Identification Form (Form 186).
For more info, see the ECFMG website.
You can also stay up to date with the latest USMLE info through Kaplan Medical's free 'Summer Series' Webinars - the next sessions will be on June 17th and 18th. For more info, click the Kaplan banner at the top of this page.
