Just got an email from P.A. about him going off on students eating in the Dr's lounge. When I was there a year and half ago I remembered the doctors inviting students in with them, has this changed or did one of you take an extra ice cream bar home? If P.A. would try to focus on his job of finding more rotations for us maybe we would not need to be cheap and eat free food. I have been to every SMU site chasing available rotations, short term leases are expensive!

Its not the eating of the free food (although this can be problematic sometimes) its the complete lack of respect some of the students show. If you are eating free food the least you can do is not make a mess and not be rude to people.I have not been to this rotation site but P.A makes it seem like some students there have no class. We aren't gonna hold onto the sites we have let alone get new ones if people continue to act like this.

And the saying is true-- you can't buy class.

how about acknowledging the students that receive constant praises from their physicians.

They do acknowledge the great job the students do but something that unprofessional needs to be called out. Besides, getting clinical sites is tough for everyone let alone smu.The fact that people are complaining about our students' behavior is a terrible sign and could cost us sites. So i have no problem with P.A's email.

Every hospital I have been in rotations at the SMU students have always been praised for their work ethics, always being on time, and going the extra mile. When I was at Sinai in Chicago doing cardiology 2 of the attendings told me that they like SMU students better than the U of Chicago students because we work harder, whine less, and do not expect to have our hands held all the time.
As far as eating in the Drs lounge at Loretto we were told to meet and eat in the Drs lounge. However at one of the Drs office they had catered lunch every day and students were not invited to eat with the staff except on our last day. At Sinai everyone ate in the cafeteria occasionally students were invites to the drug rep lunches but if you were not invited you did not show up for free food! I guess some people need to get over their sense of entitlement.

yeah that is how is it. Some students just need some spanking from time to time.
To bad that its true that it only takes one rotten apple to spoil the entire barrel.

Wow... amazing... even when at a party, you dont eat unless you're asked to.
but i am quite sure these were isolated cases.. majority of students know better
than to act like Neanderthals.

They did ask students not to eat in physician's lounge about 1.5 years ago when they were dealing with Florida hosp drama. I know some physicians invite you, but you are supposed to turn them down. FH South is diff. All med students eat there (FSU, Nova, Ponce, etc) and it was kosher to eat with your attending. It's nice to be in residency and feel like I finally belong

Hey Tim.... I know you have done quite a bit of your rotations in Florida were you happy there? I have some interest in doing a few electives and possibly residency there and would appreciate any info you can offer.
