Hi guys,
I'm new to value med but I have so many questions and don't know where to start. I have recently been accepted to Tbilisi State Medical University however I am thinking about applying to Xavier for sept 09 .
I do not want to go to Tbilisi because it is too far away . With that said, I am not too sure if Xavier university exists or if it is totally bogus! Can anyone help?
I spoke to the admissions person and she tried to assure me that it was a real university and to apply BUT I'm still not sure.
Is Xavier university WHO listed?
Will the MD degree obtained from Xavier allow you to work in other countries ie is the degree recognized?
PLEASE HELP ME GUYS. If it is possible to apply to this university and I get accepted I would not have to go all the way to the old soviet union and I would be able to be closer to my family. You might say: "what a baby!" But I have to remain close to my family as my father has been diagnosed with cancer.

Xavier is a legitimate medical school, it is WHO listed and ECFMG accredited. You will spend 16 months in Aruba for the MD program, and then go back to the states to fulfill your clinical rotations. We are getting more and more hospitals and rotation spots so things are really looking good. Class of 2009 just graduated last week and many of them place in residencies. If you're worried about this being a 'real' school, then let me assure you that it is one. Be willing to work hard when you get here and you'll be fine. Thanks so much for your response. It really gives me the confidence to apply to Xavier. I will be submitting my complete application this Monday. Hope I get through with my application. I have another question. Will I be able to practice medicine in the caribbean and in the usa after obtaining my MD from Xavier University? Will I beable to travel back home regualerly to visit my father when we have vaction from the semester? and finally how long does the application process take to be accepted into Xavier?

I did a bit of research and it seems as though I applied on the wrong website for the school ie a bogus website. Perhaps I clicked on a link. I read through some of the threads on this forum and the addresses and telephone numbers for the university are not the same. Even the link to the website of the university is different! Now I'm really worried !. I have not sent any payments of application fees nor any of my documents as yet. Can you send me the link to the official website and possibly a contact number OR BETTER YET the email address for someone in the administration?
The emails I have been receiving from the university is from a lauren waggoner and the contact number given was 516 333 2224 ext 8107
Please I need the help. oh lord!!! I hope I didn't apply to a bogus site. :(

The website for the school is (XUSOM - Home (http://edu.xusom.nl/index.php?action=Home)), on there is a link for the application page and contact info can be found by clicking the contact link at the upper right hand corner of the site. If you used this page i'm not sure what other application you think you may have filled out, but follow the steps it's pretty straightforward.

If you have any doubts, just give the NY office a call, again the number can be found on the website. When I applied over a year ago, it was hard to get someone on the phone, now they have multiple admissions reps so you shouldn't have a problem.

I did what you said. I went to the site XUSOM HOME and it says that the link appears to be broken. I then clicked on the catched version and the webpage came up however I have no idea if this is the "real " website and if the contact info is accurate and not bogus. Please send me the contact number of someone in the administration here please. I appriaciate it. PLEASE!!

I have been trying to call the university on the number that I got from the "website" and I GOT TO SPEAK TO AN "ADMISSIONS OFFICER however now it is disconnected! Now I really believe that the site and site info I got was bogus.

the contact that you have been emailing, lauren, is one of the main contacts that i have been speaking with as well. i just got accepted for the fall 2009 class, so i dont think you should be too worried if you are in touch with her. and the phone number you listed is the same one that i've used and it works for me..

Hey Thanks sooooo much for responding. That makes me feel alot more confident about applying to Xavier. I already submitted the application. I will send my application fee and other documents by the end of this week. I do hope to get through as well. I will keep you posted. Thanks again :)

i'll be going! im a little nervous as well, but im guessing since so many people have done it before that it cant be all that bad? im planning on going in july to check it out and maybe get a head start on finding somewhere to live, anybody have any suggestions on what apt complexes are closest to campus?

Have you contacted michael arends? He sent me a list of apparttmens nar campus. I heard punto di oro is pretty nice. I was thinking about this place called nayo as well but it doesn't have hot water so I don't know about that, lol

Hey guys! I attended xavier a few years back and had to leave due to a family death. I will be coming back in Jan 10 to finish. Im from miami. Aruba is a great place. I lived at ponto di oro and it was great. The landlords name is Prekash and hes a cool guy. 2nd best thing to do is once you meet ppl and feel comfortable with them, try and look for a house to rent. I had a lot of friends that rented houses and it was cheaper and less boring than living alone. Any other questions just PM me. Take care
