Well just to report I heard from 8 of my friends who went to UK for Peds and they said they absolutely loved it. They made a comparison with some of our other friends in the states and they claim that the rotation was 100% more hands on. The doctors were willing to help the students. The hours were awesome. By awesome I DON'T mean going like 3-4 days a week. They went everyday but they didn't make you do non-sense work. They knew you were there for as a student and they wanted to teach you. Also the social life is soo chill looking at these guys' photos.

So why am I talking up this rotation miles away from our parents or gf/bfs?
Bottom line. We are going to have to wait for at least 6-9 months to get this in the states. Why not go to another country which for most of us would probably never go again anytime soon, spend 42 days there. Learn more than anyone in the states rotation. Party like a rockstar on the weekends. Take a picture with a UK landmark and put it on our facebook and make all our American friends jealous.

So if your down PM me cause i'm buying my ticket for Aug
Oh yea I didn't know how to put "party like a rockstar" in bold, so just wanted to make another note of it. :-smiley7

I thought you had to stay for ALL your cores in UK? If you can only do one, like Peds or any other, than DID the SMU policy change???? Awaiting your answer.

You may have not received the 100 emails from SMU pushing us to go to UK for peds.
You can go there if you like just to do peds to graduate on time.

you know its really funny cos on one hand i did get the email sayin.. " go to Uk for peds" etc etc... which gave me the impression that ok i could just go there for one rotation and be back in 6 weeks. But recently, I was told by one of our cordinators that Dr A who is in charge of arranging the rotations in England DOES NOT want students for one rotation only. so its either u do them all or dont bother coming.

so which hospital are you going to again?

difficult decision as the fall is application for the match / interview. As long as I get it before April 2010, it should be fine.

nonetheless, thanks for the updates

I think they are making a consideration for people who only have one core left. They can go over to england and complete peds.
Hope this helps.
See you there!

HI guys, i was wondering if you could help with a decision im about to make.I'm british but in a medical school in the Ukraine right now and it sucks,it is accredited and recognized by all states but the quality of education and actual teaching very very low and poor.i found out that i could transfer to smu and then be able to do my clinicals back home i.e UK...but i also found out that smu is dissapproved in some states in the U.S which i may want to work in later on in life.Do you think it is a good idea to move to smu still?i'm really confused because im stuck in between, staying here and not being well educated but recognized,or going to smu ,being well educated but now recognized everywhere...
