I must say that I am rather upset about my thread being locked! I believe I have every right to ask about who is attending my school with me and if any of these people have caused problems with other young women!!!! And if anyone thinks that my part I of this thread is too personal, take a look at the thread titled "Please Be Wary!"-----how can my thread be locked when it is about my safety on campus and these people can mention their grandmother and their children???????? Please explain to me how this is fair moderating on VMD?????
This has cover up written all over it I think!!!! So at this point I am going to believe this "rumor" and I am sure my parents will no longer feel safe with me on the island in which case they will no longer pay my tuition which means I might be transferring!!! I do not want to do this, so I hope someone with some guts will tell me exactly what happened to this pervert who was supposedly harassing women? Hopefully he is off island as a fellow student has posted.
Any pervert asking women to pose nude has no business in medical school, any school and especially not becoming a medical professional!!!
Anyone think it was Dr. V G who was "let go" last term after incriminating information about his past was brought to attention?? I believe his "offenses" were quite similar to these "rumors".

was the old thread deleted? didn't people post on it? yet just cause it was locked automatically means you must believe worst case scenario even though there were responses? use some common sense, please, as an answer to your last question and this thread.

I won't speak to fair moderating, or locked threads, but I believe that the moderator must make a call to protect the integrity, honesty, etc that these boards represent. I'll defer to his/her judgment I hope that unemotional discussion should prevail.
To that point,...asking a woman to pose nude, while perhaps personally insulting or judged inappropriate (a very personal matter) is not illegal. I certainly would not engage in the behavior, and don't think is appropriate for student/student relations. I suspect that Hugh Hefner started his publication empire with this technique. As long as "no" is accepted by the person asking. I don't think safety on campus was an issue at any time with this person or situation, but I'll defer to the victims to make that determination...it is very subjective. I'd be more worried for those same women who have been seen at Smoke Alley, drunk at 2 AM.
Being that harassment is a very personal matter (and very subjective), admin acted as quickly as possible to protect the campus when the situation was revealed. There was no cover up at any time. This individual was banned from campus and is no longer living on island. Should he/she be a physician? I'll not speak to that question..there are so many issues, and if not Statia, he/she will go elsewhere to get his/her education. If someone wants to be a clinician badly enough, it'll happen. There are student with far worse offenses in school on other islands to my direct knowledge.
Perversion is an interesting concept. What is perversion to one person is likely a valued quality in others. There is a lot of subjective emotional commentary and I assure you that the medical profession, and your future practice, will be filled with such subjective experiences. But I would encourage anyone feeling "threatened" or "harassed" to call 911. The Dutch police and immigration, and school admin, are not at all tolerant of threatening or harassing behavior.
I don't think the picture incident is anything like the lying of a convicted sexual offender. They are very, very different situations. Dr. V G should have NEVER been hired, period. But in defense of that, he misrepresented his qualifications on many occasions and levels. Again, subjectivity might conclude differently, but actual attacks on women are illegal, asking to pose for pictures is "bad manners" at best...in my personal, subjective opinion.
I think that most would shudder if they new the true history of many of their current and past faculty and classmates, here and at any other institution in all of the world. People make mistakes, but we all need to be vigilant for our own, and the safety of our classmates. Campus safety is always a good discussion. We need to be aware.

hellenWeelz, you have asked about this topic 3 times now, in 3 different threads. You got responses from all of them. if you still have questions, you should contact current students directly, via email (which the NY admin office can put you in touch with students) so that way you are getting an accurate response that you are so hoping to get. while i will not comment on the situation you are asking about, do remember everything you hear on valueMD needs to be taken with a grain of salt. feel free to PM me if you need.

HellenWeelz, your first post was not locked because of the question that you asked. It was closed because of the response by a poster; they used the actual screen name of the person accused of harassment.
If you are at the school, like you say you are, you don't need to be asking this type of question on here!!! There are too many students at your disposal ON CAMPUS, who will give you the REAL answers that you seek.
BTW, I saw the post BEFORE it was modified by the super moderator. If that is the real person who did that, then YES they are most definitely gone.
Besides...where would you transfer?? Each island has its problems; don't expect to go from Statia to a "safer island" with "safer-non-sexual-harassing students". Grow up, and keep yourself safe by not using ValueMD to ask these types of questions...ask your classmates and the upper term students!!!!

I'm not affiliated with the school. Looking at this from the outside, OP, there is crime and harassment EVERYWHERE, including US med schools and the cities in which they are located. Just use common sense and avoid getting in situations where you will be vulnerable.
Regarding the thread closing, it would seem to make more sense to just delete the personal info instead of closing the whole thread.

Crime? On an island with 2000 inhabitants? Sounds like everyone should know everyone else.

Either way, our school curriculum doesnt influence this behavior. If the student is gone you should be fine. Even if the student is still there I doubt he/she runs around asking everyone they know to pose nude. Its not likely that this is serial behavior.
I know someone who attends University of MS (Ole Miss) and she was asked to pose nude for playboy. Same senerio, so you may want to avoid US colleges also. Ever heard of a Frat party?

I saw Corpsman respond the the harassment thread. He basically stated that somebody at the University of Wherever was asked to pose for playboy, so what's the big deal? He also indicated that the level of depravity on Statia did not compare to that of a basic frat party in the US.
I am not sure that the arguments apply. In this instance, a guy with close ties to the US admin made multiple solicitations that were deemed sufficiently depraved as to awaant his removal from the school and the island. This same guy, who drives around in school vehicles on weekends, makes kissy posts on VMD, and takes pictures for the website gets rescued by the suits in the US who overturn his expulsion and ejection from the island. A guy wielding that kind of power cannot conceivably make such solicitations in a way that cannot be interpreted as harassment.
The argument that all is well because he is no longer on the island is also hollow. While he was declared as morally unfit to attend basic sciences and live on the island as a member of the University community (before the higher intervention), he has now been deemed fit to rotate in hospitals in the US, pending the passage of Step 1.
Scary! Something is wrong here!

You have 6 post and 1 infraction. That is scary. It is pretty obvious that my reply was taken completely out of context.
"He also indicated that the level of depravity on Statia did not compare to that of a basic frat party in the US."
I was simply stating that US Universities have much worse behavior taking place everyday at frat parties. I am begining to question your level of comprehension.
