I wouldn't worry too much. Some people hold an acceptance and wait until hearing back from SGU/ross/etc before making a final decision. Hopefully everything works out for you!
Did they say that the Sept 2009 class was full? seems a bit early i guess.. did you take the MCAT/what was your stats like if you dont mind me asking?
ive been accepted to jan class, and was wondering whether it's possible to go on the waitinglist for the sep class?? is this a routine procedure? possible at all?
I'm accepted for January 2010 and waitlisted for September 09 as well. We'll see what happens I guess.

did you ask them to be waitlisted for sep class or they automatically put you on the waiting list?
I asked to be waitlisted.

It all depends on when you want to match and graduate. I think if you start in January at Saba, that will push you to the 2014 match. Starting in Jan also gives you lots of time to prepare for the USMLE's and such. If you have your heart set on Saba, then go with Saba. If you're open to both, then read a bit about each school and make your decision from there. Both will get you where you need to be in the end. You might want to keep calling Saba and express your interest in attending. I have a feeling Saba is becoming more popular because it has lower tuition than the other three big schools. Good luck.

I appreciate your post :)
Yes, my heart is with Saba and I think it fits me the most in compare with other 2 schools I've got into... and also the lower tuition is significant to me...
From what I understand, students from Sep2009 class will have 8 months to study for USMLE, but students from Jan2010 class have 4months... is this true? So basically Jan students have less time to prepare for USMLE (what about the Canadian exams?)
The only reason I want to start this Sep is to have more time to study for USMLE... I don't wnat to regret anything later on...
how accurate is my information?

Honestly, with January you can go either way. If you get all your rotations done back to back you might be able to graduate and match in 2013. Most people that start in January, end up matching and graduating the following year, so giving themselves more time to prepare for the USMLE. If you are really aiming for 2013, you're sacrificing major study time when it comes to the USMLE's.
Here's what your timeline would look like:
- 5 Semesters of basic sciences which means you would finish September 2011.
- Say you take a month off to study for Step 1.
- You then have to wait for your Step 1 score to begin rotations, so that's apprx. another month. If you pass the first time, you should be able to begin rotating November 2011.
- You have 42 weeks of core rotations. Say you do these back to back with absolutely NO gaps between them, you would finish mid August or beginning of September 2012.
- Say you take another month to study and prepare for Step 2. You don't have to wait for your score, you can begin doing your elective rotations immediately. So say you start those in October 2012.
- You then have a minimum of 30 weeks for elective rotations. Say you do all 30 weeks back to back, you will be finished mid April or beginning of May 2013.
Most schools have graduation in May, so you would literally be cutting it super close. If you stray off that timeline at ALL, you will miss graduation, pushing you forward until 2014. As you can see, it's very difficult to do. That is why most people decide to take their time studying, and push it forward to the following year. Not to mention that it's really hard to do all 72 weeks of rotations back to back with no wait time between them. Hope that helped. Good luck to you.

This is perhaps the most useful reply i have received from a member on valuemd. Thank you VERY MUCH for taking your time and writing this up for me (and others).
I contacted Saba and they told me that Sept2009 class is also very likely to match for 2014. So that means that even those students take some time off to study for USMLE which makes them not graduate in May 2013. I have a feeling that in most cases though, Sep2009 class will match for 2013 residency. Is this realistic?
I am very surprised to hear that some Sep2009 class will match to 2014 residency, basically taking 1 year off in between to study etc.

You're very welcome :).
I wouldn't say they are VERY likely to match in 2014, but I will say that some of them will. Some people have to move around more than others for rotations, which results in them graduating at a later date.
Your feeling is correct though, most people starting in Sept 2009, will match and graduate in 2013. This is the traditional start date, that American schools follow, which means the timeline is doable. There's always other circumstances though that could result in matching a year later. Some people have to re-locate families and stuff which results in them needing more time. I hope that cleared things up a little. Good luck!

I took a second look at the rotations required for Saba, and I saw that Family Medicine wasn't a required core, therefore making the total 42 weeks. The majority of the other schools have 48 weeks of cores, because family medicine is required. I do not know if this is a typo, or this is just how Saba operates. So you might want to factor in that extra 6 weeks as well, or call just to make sure. Best of luck.
