Hi i wonder if anyone can help with a question that needs answering regarding the london college of medicine. I went to slough, UK to meet Dr Sidhu, who is the UK representative of the IUHS. He informed be about the medical college since i had been accepted to study medicine and i found him quite respectable. He told me i would be studying for the MBBS (which is the equivalent to the USA MD programme) and would have to do PLAB exams since originally i would be a student from the St Kitts and Nevis campus in the west indies. So after four years i would be practicing medicine, and could work and get registered in the UK, obviously passing my PLAB exams.
All i want to know from anyone out there, is there anyone who can tell me of there experiences with the IUHS and not give me any rubbish stories, someone who come tell the truth. It always helps.
Thus just let me know if the university is an accredited university and that the course is do-able. I have done much research regarding the school and it is recognised by the world health organisation, etc. Someone let me know what they think. Im due to begin in October this year.

and there is no one that can convince you not too. However before you do i suggest that you do your DD. IUHS is not to be trusted and i am nnot just saying this to make up stuff. Do you see any good posts about IUHSs?
They are a scam and rubish as you put it. So if you ahve anymore questions post them

I may also be sttending IUHS on campus, but am still in the process of applying to different schools. I spoke with someone just the other day who was doing clinicals in Nevis, he is from the UK. I asked his opinion and he stated that he had studied with people from IUHS and that some of his friends had obtained residencies in the US, that had attended IUHS. It is really up to you to work hard for four years and do well on your boards. In addition, IUHS had many on line lectures and things of the sort, so be prepared to do some indepedent learning, or find a few students to study with.
I have heard both good and bad things about this institution. Hope that helps. Also, contact the admissions office for specifics.
p.s. as you can see, exiuhs is currently banned. He apparently had a bad experience there, the school now has new directors.

Thanks for the message, i noticed on the IUHS forum there are a lot of criticisms about the medical school. I am not afraid of hard work and the reason i have chosen the IUHS is because you can do the work from the comfort of you home. I am a UK resident and look to work in the National Health Service in the UK, i would like to go on and get a career as a consultant paediatric nephrologist. Its a personal ambition.
The medical schools in the UK are very competitive and are hard to obtain enterance. This was the alternative. I already have a B.Sc (Hons) in Biomedical Sciences and may try to get state registration (trainee position) so i can pay for some of the fees for the medical college. Its difficult because i dont want to apply again for a medical school through the UCAS system that the UK has for all medical schools and the IUHS seems reasonable and do-able.
At one stage i was thinking of doing a PhD, then apply because it may have uplifted specific experiences and qualifications. There is no guarantee that a PhD is of any help for medical applications and entry. Thus my point is that one does get tired of applying and finds alternatives to persue what he/ she is looking for.
Thanks again for the reply and for letting me know of exiuhs. Would it be possible to get the contact for that individual who is from the UK and doing is clinicals in Nevis? It would be much appreciated. Thanks again.
Shahid :)
If you are a UK citizen (or a EU national) why dont you consider going to one of the schools in Czech, Hungary, Poland, Latvia, etc... You know, the ones from the new members of the EU. Graduates from those schools need not write the PLAB.
Take a look at:
http://www.gmc-uk.org/register/eu_accession_member_states.htm
It should not be that hard to get into these schools. And I know these schools would be a better choice than IUHS.
Now if you have trouble getting into these schools and not IUHS, then...???
