I was waitlisted for sept 09 and accepted for jan 10. It feels great to be in one of the big 4 schools.

I just have a quick question about internet. I know the island is very isolated and there isn't much to do on the island.

I was wondering how is the internet speed? Is it fast enough to watch tv shows or movies? Also, is there wireless internet in the dorms? if not can you buy a better internet service?

Thanks!

I will be starting in september and they send me a package that included the price of the internet. The speeds seem much slower compared to what you would expect here (Canada).

Monthly packages for the ADSL are:

64k/64k - $55 <-- Dial-up speeds
128k/128k - $80 <-- 2x Dial-up speeds
256k/256k - $120 <-- 4x Dial-up speeds

there is an installation fee of $150

The dvd that they sent says that they provide WIFI at the school, but i don't think there is a WIFI service available at the dorms. But maybe for a fee, cause they also say "Satel (the provider) also provides pre-paid WIFI service. No installation fees are required".

But yeah, im still interested in the oppinon of a student thats been there.

wow! that's pretty slow... i guess i wont be able to d/l tv shows. my iphone in the states get faster 3g internet and its cheaper too. :faint:

that's a bummer...

I am guessing there won't be any At&t on the island too so we can't use our current cellphones there.

I met with Elizabeth last week at a Career Health Fair and she told me that there are still spots open for September. Spots for May 2009 are almost full (maybe full by now..not sure).

I interview next Wednesday on April 1st and am hoping to get in for September 2009. If I do, I will see you all there... :-)

Is anyone on the island using the local telephone provider's VoIP service? We are looking to provide VoIP service on Saba and would like to know actual customer experiences as well with SATEL's Internet quality. I'm certain we could beat them on pricing.
