Is Houma a site where all rotations can be done? I'm asking because I have a school aged daughter.

The quick answer is yes.

You can do the majority of your core rotations and all your electives in Houma. The two core rotations that are not greenbooked are pediatrics and psych. Most people do psych first and then the rest of the cores to prevent from moving. Lots of good public and private schools in Houma for your daughter. The best public school is Mulberry Elementary, but you do need to live in the school district.

Thanks for the info!! Are there any close psych or peds rotations and if psych is first, where do people usually do it? Just planning ahead, as you know you have to with a child.

The closest Psych rotation is LSU-Shreveport about a 5 hour drive from Houma. Several students have set up here, got the kids enrolled in school and go up to Shreveport for Psych. during the week and come back on weekends. I know others have rotated through North Carolina. There are a couple of psych hospitals there, but the only one I can remember is Cherry Hospital in Goldsboro, NC.
If you have most of you cores at Houma, are there any breaks in between? ...or do you finish on a Friday and start the next rotation on a Monday, for example?

The Shreveport rotation is not LSU-Shreveport, but brentwood hospital, a clinical affiliate of LSU. I did my core at brentwood and I am now a resident at LSU shreveport. Its a great rotation that convinced me to choose psych as a career. BTW, you can do electives at LSU shreveport (the main university hospital).

That would be a YES.
The only rotation I had to do call on was OB. If you land on that one you might even be there the weekend before the next rotation.
Houma is a good clinical place. They have an internal medicine residency there now.
No real breaks unless a hurricane comes. You do get a break between around July for about 2 weeks, you also get Fat Tue off too.
