I will be taking the Step 1 exam in August after I finish the 5th semester in Cayman. My question is should I plan on starting clinicals in the fall providing I pass or do we usually have to wait until the first of the year to start clinicals. I would love to start right away in the fall. Just wondering.

I waited 1.5 months after I received my score, a total of 2.5 months after sitting for Step 1. My score was the only thing that the school needed as far as paperwork went. Then again, my score came back during the annual Step 1 score delay, meaning many people got their scores on the very same day, so you may start a little sooner.

get ready to wait a long time for rotations if you want Green. If your okay with Blue (which you shouldnt be) then you will wait less

Not true at all or perhaps an exaggeration of the truth at best.If you are a new third year student who just passed step 1 and are going into clinicals you will get a green core pretty soon provided you are not too picky as to where you want to go. There sometimes is a wait for peds and obgyn but you can always do electives in the meantime. I personally did not have to wait for anything and was given all of my cores almost entirely back to back but there are people who do wait a little for certain rotations.I dont know too many people doing blue rotations and smu has by far many more green rotations than blue. Please talk to people who are in clinicals already not chicken little basic science students.

As for the previous poster and step 2:Technically you need to have passed it(ck and cs) by february of the year you are matching in. Some programs like to see all your scores as an img when you apply others dont mind as much. Ideally its best to have all your scores in before you apply but you can still get plenty of interviews with your step 1 score alone.

This is from someone who passed step 1 in january and was told SMU cant start him in a Green rotation for approximately 12 weeks. If he wanted to take a blue rotation he couldve started much sooner. It seems the problem is starting with the class that finished Kaplan in December (several from that class have told myself and others this) and it will get worse as the class in kaplan now is very large.
