Absolutely true that the current economic scenario is not great...but thats exactly even more reason why Spartan has an advantage over other schools...the tuitions at Spartan are way lower than the so called "Big Three" schools in the Caribbean. To add on, Spartan also has a very reasonable private loan program which helps cover tuitions!

I don't know if you ever received and answer to your question but I do think there is at least family there. Maybe someone else can chime in if they know for sure.

I am aiming at certain colleges in the Caribbean and Spartan is a strong contender for reasons like good pedagogy and cheaper tuition fees.
I'm sure all aspiring students are rejoicing the cheaper tuition fees in times of recession.

Hey, even I am planning to join a medical school in 2010. SHSU is within the top five medical schools that I am aiming for. I also have some financial problem, so SHSU's low fee structure is definitely an added advantage for me.

Spartan really seems to giving more than the money's worth...amazing changes being done to Academics- crux of Medical Education...total revamping of curriculum upkeeping with the constantly changing formats of US medical schools..I guess one cant hope for more in these competitive times...

Yeah! Where financing my education is a big deal, Spartan Health Sciences should be a good place with reasonable value for money. Any clue if there are any renowned majors this univ boasts of? If some one could inform me of the prospects:confused:

As far as I know the basic sciences at SHSU is great. Their curriculum encompasses a comprehensive course of basic medical sciences and clinical sciences that last three calendar years.

For US students the private loan at SHSU helps to cover up to 75% of the college tuition fees.but to apply for it you must have a GPA of 3>.

SHSU offers financial aid in the form of TERI Loans. The ISLP Graduate Loan is available to U.S. or foreign students who are enrolled at least half-time at approved colleges and universities.

Does your examination scores affect these loans? Since I am 12th pass out, how much score is required to apply for these loans?
windy

Preferably above 60%.
To avail an educational loan your GPA must be above 3.

Oh well, that makes my candidature safe.
I do have a score of 3.29.

That's a bad news for me.
I have a score of 2.89. Is there no way, I can get through this college?
If you notice, it's not too less than their cut off of 3.

I wouldn't be of much help to you, Jasminn.
I do not know if there is any way you can get admissions in SHSU. However, you can speak to their admissions officer. That should help, I suppose.
Moreover, your GPA score can be rounded to 2.9, which would mean are falling short of just 0.1.I hope, they make an exception for you.

That was quite reassuring. Thank you, Windy.
I shall definitely talk to the admissions officers directly.

I will suggest, you must talk to them ASAP.

Melinda if you need info why don't you call the school directly instead of relying on this forum for vital info. I am an accepted student for may but deffer till fall to start due to financial reasons. As far as I know there are no loans for now except maybe canadian students and also they have like a payment arrangement.Call the school yourself to confirm be because I dont understand what windy is saying. As far as I know there are no loans but the tuition is heao and there are ways to pay for it if you plan properly. If you need more info pm me

As far as I know, SHSU provides Private Student Loans but only for the US citizens. Financial assistance may be available through the Canadian Student Loan Program for eligible Canadian citizens.

i think you need to mention your GPA and MCAT scores while applying for a private loan in SHSU.
windy

One more thing, I don't if you of canadian origin but Canadian students may also apply for financial assistance through the Canadian Student Loan Program.

Do State Boards approve a school without NCFMEA accreditation
windy

I wouldn't be able to help you with that. I hope someone else answers that question for you.

05-27-2009, 05:06 AM
By the way, Jasminn have you spoken to the admission officer regarding your admission?
Jasminn
05-27-2009, 05:12 AM
Appreciate your concern, Windy.
Well, I did speak to them. They told me they will try to consider my case as my GPA is not too less than their required qualifying score.
I hope to get through the college.

Do State Boards approve a school without NCFMEA accreditation
I have looked for an answer to your question through some primary research.
NCFMEA has basically nothing to do with the accreditation of any school. So there is no question of State Boards not approving of a school without NCFMEA accreditation.
Melinda_Rob
05-29-2009, 12:30 AM
Oh I see. So NCFMEA accreditation is not mandatory for schools to fetch approval from State Boards.
Thank you Windy for taking the trouble.

but can the whole rotation teh done in MD insteading from changing states every semester?

I am fairly sure you can do most of your rotations in that state. I think there are students who have been rotating there for some time now and they have completed pretty much all of their clinicals. If there are clerkships that are not offered in their you can always clump them together and do them all in a row so you do not have to move around as often. I think your best bet is to call or email the school asking them this information directly.
