So because 1 teacher is bad, you are saying not to go? LOL. In undergrad I had several teachers that were like that, and tested us on material that we had know idea where he got it from. Get used to feeling humilated. Many residents I talk to are treated like complete crap by their attending. Many students in clinicals get pimped and made feel inferior by some doctors.

Welcome to the Philippines. Every single school has terror teachers. Learn to kiss *** here and swallow your pride or go home.

I would love to hear from 3rd, 4th year Fatmia students about their experiences and if they have already taken USMLE 1.

University of the East Ramon Magsaysay Medical Center (UERMMC). They don't have Stafford loans.

I have not heard of anybody getting denied unless there is something lacking in their applications. For FilAms, they are more lenient as long as you have a Bachelors degree and have taken the NMAT.
For locals, somebody commented on another forum that they are stricter with the NMAT cutoff of 55 (If lower, they were asked to repeat in April to get the 55 minimum score).

Hi,

I'm seriously considering transferring to Fatima and would like to know more about the school. Any information would be great before making my decision to withdraw. I'd like to know the good and bad details...

Thanks in advance for all your help!

Hey everyone...if you are contemplating of attending OLFU special class please pause for a while and re-think...there is too much politics here more than what an outsider would know. Most of the professors are great but there is this one doc who talk, act, and behave like a genius but in reality he does not have teaching skills, always late in class, talk dirty words in the classroom, lecture 2 hours for a 4-6 hours topic, and most of all yells at students. I tell you now- if you decide to come here and meet this doc V in physiology you will regret the very first day. You will not learn anything from him but his arrogance. He yells and shout at his students before a major exam and guess what...in a microscopic anatomy class he let students identify structures structures which are not even shown...believe me this is not a joke..and side questions were biochemistry stuff on a histology class!!! He was so rude that day and literally shouting at his students...we felt so helpless and humiliated and get this...this is just before a major practical exam in microscopic anatomy!!! I dont think anybody pass that test which was 37% of our grade. He is anti-american students..often times he made comments like "dont behave like you are in the states"..wow...Also, he teaches physiology and yeah you wont learn anything because he talks very fast, with a very definite accent, mumbles and crack jokes that only those who speaks tagalog would understand. He is definitely not an asset of the school..so..if you dont wanne meet this guy and be miserable don't go to Fatima..Because of his attitude I am sure a lot of us will be taking removals in histology and physiology. And FYI- he always mention that he is part of the registrars office and yeah you will definitely see him there...this is infact a lot of people are scared of him because he used his "scare techniques" such as " I am part of the promotion committee..etc..." If I were you consider UERM because they also have clerkship program in the USA.IN fact some of us are already contemplating about transferring! Got no intention to put down a person or school here...my purpose is to give a heads up to future students who are considering about attending this school. The school is great but this prof behaves so weird. If I were the administration I wont let him teach in special class anymore. His attitude and behavior is not mature while the special class is a group of mature students from all over the world and of different cultures and background. We came here to learn not to be humiliated. In fact the name of the school is 'Our lady of Fatima';. THis institution should promote a comfortable, nice, and christian spirit ( though I am not a christian...I dont care about religion). They have to make sure that we are treated like human beings not stupid animals! Peace to all!!!
Yes Dr. V can be a terror in front, but if u massage his ego a little bit, then he is your best friend. He is all barb but no bite really. That is how it start w us during my time as well. After u stroke his ego a few times, he is real cool w u. In fact he becomes our great advocate in long run. What u should watch out for are Enriquez and DAS. Those are the real A**** that can really hurt u, because they control when or how u going to get your diploma or not. FU is hard, but it's not impossible. But u have to study on ur own for steps. Good luck.

FolicAcid- I believe that this is rather a childish and immature generalization telling people not to go to Fatima because of your personal experience with a teacher. I am also a current student here and I can tell you how I like to be here. You are only looking at a small dot in a big white paper :(. In life looking at the big picture will always give you the better benefit. As I understand and acknowledge that everyone is entitled to his opinion your post could be misleading.

For all of you- like what I wrote last time- Fatima offers the learning environment and circumstances that fit my need in preparation for my future and I tell you why.
a. Fatima is a title IV school- they can administer federal loans- if I am not mistaken, this is the only school in PI that does it. It does not matter if you or your family can afford to pay your tuition, it is a smart idea to get a loan because in the future there is a high chance that you can avail of the so called "loan forgiveness program". PM if you did not get my point:eek:.
b. Fatima has institutionalized clerkship program in US hospitals (Chicago and NY). Ladies and gentlemen- THINGS HAS CHANGED! If you have family member (maybe your parents) who finished residency in the US a while ago- they may not be the best resource. DUring those time USCE is not as important as now. Talk to people who are seeking residency match for this year and they will tell you how a USCE is as important before you know it.
c. Fatima has special class- we have a better schedule than the locals. Remember our goal is to prepare for the USMLE in parallel with our classes. If you go to any school outside the USA no matter what school that would be you will still gonna be categorized as FMG (if you are not a US citizen), IMG (if you are a citizen). Having those three letter attached to you have a bearing in the choice of what field you will likely be accepted for the match. HOWEVER, there is a good news- If you ace the USMLE with those attractive three digit-score there is a chance that you could compete with students from the big 3 carribean schools or even with AMG with less attractive profile. My point here- I don't know any other school that offer these type of schedule that the special class in Fatima has (eg. for second sem- we don't have classes on Fridays and Saturdays- yay!!!!!!!!). Here in Fatima- they will allow you to take 6-month off before MS3 if you decide to take some off to prep yourself for the USMLE step 1.
d. Fatima is well-known about catering to their foreign students. I beleive they have the most foreign students as compared to other universities in PI. If you heard about FMG/IMG friendly hospitals to the match you need to consider also foreigner-friendly schools to attend. THe school that you talk to will always tell you that they are but will they excuse you from doing community medicine (community medicine in PI is different from the states)?, do they have a foreign department?,
e. Recently Fatima put up an electronic library exclusively to med students and its within the same building where classes are located.
f. Above all, you will be studying with people wth same interest, cultural background (maybe yes or no), same motivation, and future goals.

To folicAcid- wining is not the answer! I have been in different situations and environment (school, work, chrurch) and yeah frustrations and politics are enivitable but they do exist and like what you learned in your ANS physiology these will give you the drive to keep moving on and on and on...peace to you!:)

Again- I am not here to say come over to Fatima, my words are "go to school that would best fit your needs and your goals".
PM me for any questions....

Thanks for the post sactoboy. That was really helpful.

What year are you currently in?

I understand that OLFU accommodates USMLE takers; however, is their curriculum designed for USMLE prep as well? (for the foreigner's class at least)

SACTOBOY

There is no specific curriculum for the USMLE...remember this is PI education...under the CHED's guidelines and accredition. Like what I said there is no school in PI that will teach you the USMLE way..you need to fill the gap or bridge or maybe I'll say put the pieces together...remember step 1 is based on a PBL approach...Some schools in PI tried PBL before but they went back to the traditional...in fatima- we have case conferences in biochemistry where clinical correlations are done...example - after studying the enzymes we had case conference regarding MI, liver disease, etc where we talk what are the roles of these enzymes in the diagnosis and management of such problems- this help a lot!

SHAME ON “FolicAcid08”!!!!

SHAME SHAME SHAME!!!! I just found out about this post, and that is all I have to say.

The individual who initiated this post is a disgrace to all medical students (beyond that, "it" is apparently cruel and inhuman)!!! You are simply abominable for trying to destroy people's lives by devising deceptive insinuations, and for that I tell you this: SHAME!!!

I am in the same class as you, and will be analyzing and exposing the full scope of your nefarious agenda.

First off, you said Dr. V is anti-American. That is simply untrue. In saying this, you want to imply that you yourself are American, or are, at the very least, living in America. Therefore, in your manipulative efforts to limit who could have written your post, you exclude the non-American students in the class.

Second, you indicated that you were part of the group that took the harder histology test (which, my dear, you conveniently forgot to mention, was because we didn't follow the proper protocol of being present when the test was administered). Therefore, in your manipulative efforts to limit who could have written your post, you indicated that you are American, and that you were in the group that took the 2nd test.

Third, you indicated you don't know Tagalog because you don't understand the jokes. Fourth, you said you are not Christian.

Therefore, you shameless miscreant, you chose your words very carefully, calculatingly, and malevolently, because, let me ask you this: How many people are there in the class who are American, took the 2nd histology test, do not know Tagalog, and are not Christian?????? You know the answer to that full well -- SHAME ON YOU FOR TRYING TO DESTROY PEOPLE'S LIVES BY WAY OF MISLEADING IMPLICATION!!!!! You deviously provided “identity clues” in your post in order to falsely incriminate other students as being the authors!

As for those who might let themselves be influenced by this individual's post, I’ll tell you this: do not pay any attention to what her/his post says. Fatima is a great school, and if you have the privilege of going there, with a mature and studious attitude (of course), you will learn a lot. And let's be honest: you are not in kindergarten, so yes, you must assume responsibility for your mistakes. We deserved the harder histology test because we did not observe proper protocol – namely, being in front of the lab when the test was administered. What else do you expect?

So SHAME on you, you scoundrel. You should never ever take care of people, because it is you who obviously has no regard for human life!

ha, hard to change enduring negative perspectives that a school developed.

So, what is the current tuition for international students? And the donation fee?

I can agree with fatima for truth...though i realize that there is a freedom of expression in this forum I strongly suggest that FolicAcid should delete his/her post becaue it contains personal, emtoional, and misleading information. FolicAcid please PM me so we can talk privately.

To all- contrary to FolicAcid's point of view, there are great things happening in this school that you won't know unless you are as student here. Before I attended Fatima I did my homework researching and talking to different schools here in PI and as of now I can still say that I'm glad I made my decision to be here.

Peace to all!

Give the guy a break dude! What is the point of your post anyway? Are u saying that he made the whole thing up? Or what he described did happen? I went to Fatima, I know Dr. V personally! Yes he can be overbearing sometimes and to most students he could be a terror especially you let him intimidate u. And sometimes, he is too much as well. Those are the time i jz ignored him. But what Folic Acid said was NOT a total outrage lied, i did observed these behaviors by some teachers Dr. V, the Pediatric dr, the cardio (VP), Dr. O, and more. However, what concern me most are Dr. E (VP of the school) and DAS (incharge of finance), they can really hurt you via delay your graduation, your transcripts and such. These things happend don't try to deny it. However, they have nothing to do w academic.
Back to Dr. V, Dont u think he can tone it down a little bit? What kind of Dr behave like that? let put it this way he would be fired first day, if he teaches like that in US med school. This is also an indictment on the Whole PI culture of terror teachers not just Dr. V. So buyer beware! When i think back to those day, i recognize those terror teachers are just lacking in real self-esteem. Have u seen real Dr in US? I recommend u go to one Kaplan class or look up Condrad ****** lecture and see how teachers suppose to be teaching and how to act! Last thing tell Dr. V to behave or I will call Dr. Bart and let her know ahahha.

well, terror teachers cant be avoided. There are a couple of these in every school. I just wish they'd do something about those traffic aides who seem like theyre just posing for some imaginary magazine photographer! haha
