I am 40 years old with a BA in finance from the University of Texas at Austin. My GPA was a 3.35. I do not have any of the science prereqs and those I did take were taken 23 years ago. If I take the ~40 hours I need and got a 4.0 my GPA would only rise to a 3.46. I am ready for a career change and want to be an MD. At my age I am wanting to find the most efficient route.

What would be some recommendations for my situation?

Also, does anyone know of a list of US schools that offer postgrad premed programs with linkages to med school? (Like Temple School of Medicine but its way too expensive). The problem with the AAMS search site is that it doesn't give you enough info to know what kind of postgrad program it is and I don't want to have to call 80 different schools to find out if at all possible.

Many Thanks,

Doug

There are post bac programs - they are pretty much full time. If you need to work your day job would suggest night school at local community college instead for the medical school pre-reqs:

2 courses (3 quarters) intro Biology with lab
2 courses (3 quarters) intro Physics with lab
2 courses (3 quarters) intro Chemistry with lab
2 courses (2 quarters) intro Organic Chemistry with lab

Want to have a 3.5 or better, take a very good MCAT prep class also.

Follow links for the Post Bac programs. Some are better than others. Don't do Johns Hopkins, UVa is very good as are some others!

PCOMM has a one year program that is good in bio medical science. AAMS has a book on medical school requirements that is very good. You will not find all you need on line. Also look on the student doctor network. They have a much stronger pre-med/post bac section better than ours.
