Why not consider:
AUA, MUA, St. Eustastius, UMHS, before these 2 schools?

ditto davidmd's post. i would defintely look into first the big 4 if you have good stats, then aua/mua/maybe smu. if those fail, THEN try the other schools like xavier, windsor, all saints, spartan...

Consider SGU, AUC, Ross, Saba first then look at AUA, MUA, UMHS then SMU. Do not go to a school like All Saints. If you cant get into one of the above 8 it is not going to be worth it.

The best schools in the Carrib in IMO are
1. SGU
2. AUC
3. Ross
4. Saba

5-8. UMHS, AUA, SMU, MUA

SGU is by far the best. most resources, best match list, highest admissions standards. great clinical rotation spots. AUC and Ross are interchangeable, i put AUC above Ross because St. Maarten is alot nicer than Dominica. Saba has a good track record with Canadian students and has 50 state approval.

The rest. SMU has serious issues with liscensing issues. AUA, MUA and UMHS do not have all 50 state approval but are in much better shape than SMU in that regards.

agreed except I would still place Ross over AUC simply because they've put so many grads out there and thus a higher probability that a PD has heard of Ross. this might only improve Ross by a miniscule amount over AUC, but I'm just a firm believer that every bit helps when going the foreign route.

point taken, but living conditions on Dominica are horrid and Ross is getting close to admitting 400-500 per class. When Dr. Ross owned the school it was clearly neck and neck if not above SGU since Devry came along it has dropped. In the end i think it all boils down to AMG vs IMG. A Carrib grad with 240 on their boards, good LOR from US clinical sites, all ACGME clinicals will be indistingushable be it from Ross, SGU, AUC, AUA, SMU etc.

xavier all the way....they have clinicals in atlanta and many of my friends from xavier are getting good residencies.....link: http://www.medschool.lsuhsc.edu/family_medicine/docs/0304.pdf

LSUHSC School of Medicine (http://www.medschool.lsuhsc.edu/family_medicine/residency_lake_charles.aspx)

go where they have clinical sites, especially in one place so you don't have to move around the country like many other carribean med schools do...good luck

honestly, if you are a hard working student it doesn't matter which caribbean school you choose. however, you need to take in consideration "where" in the USA you want to practice medicine. then, check with the board of medical examiners if you will be able to get a state license in that state if you graduate from a certain caribbean school -- that is the trick ;)

Experience Counts:
Call me old school, but, after seeing so many schools open doors and few years later close shop. I think it would be best to review the schools that are in operation for at least 10 years.
Actually many state boards are now changing policies to state just that.....the school must be teaching medicine for at least 10 years.

My top choices then are, NOT by rank:
SGU, Ross, SABA, AUC, Spartan, UHSA

All these schools started in the late 70s or early 80s, and produced thousands of practicing MDs.

Minding my business but

The question was Which is better school ? Xaviers or All Saints. How did uhsa get in?

Yes one should certainly chose from the best of the schools that have survived for a long period like SGU, Ross, SABA, AUC .

Although uhsa has been around since Adam was in the garden, a recent article in Academic Medicine reveals that medical students attending Antiguan medical schools in the period 1996- Jan 2009 achieved an ECFMG certification rate of only a whopping 19%.

It seems that after 27 years that uhsa is certainly not one of the longstanding ancient schools with loads of experience that have produced thousands of practicing MDs despite your continued persistent and perennial subliminal advertising on valueMd in the last few years. Since May 2008

You yourself noted in a post this year that uhsa was NOT doing so well

It should be clear to all that AUA and WINDSOR especially, must be giving uhsa such serious competition these days that UHSA has to stoop to such blatant advertising and hogging of the forum by one person.
