I did pediatrics in Atlanta, it is 90% out patient and 10% in patient. The in patient work is just newborn physical exams. DeKalb actually doesnt have a pediatrics floor therefore you obviously cannot be see pediatric in patients with diseases. The out patient experience is working in a pediatrician doctors office 9-5 which was good, I mean I learned a lot but of course the rotation is still missing that core component of in patient teaching.

I'm doing Peds in ATL right now, and will do OB/GYN in a few weeks. As I found out after I arrived, you don't actually get to work in a hospital like Pringles said. You rotate at satellite clinics where the attendings have privileges at Dekalb. The hospitals and clinics are all within 30 miles within the center of Atlanta. I believe the same applies to Southern Regional. However, Southern Regional does have an OB/GYN clinic, but not everyone rotates there. Some students are designated to clinics. Once you know where you're going, you're stuck there for 6 weeks.

Ok so u wont actually find out the clinic you are assigned until you get to Atlanta? Also as for the shelf exam, how does that work? Is it in the last wk of the rotation, and at the hospital/clinic your are rotating through?

Correct, you won't find out the clinic till you get here. The shelf exam is still unclear to me at this point. My understanding is that these are not NBME shelf exams, but are SABA's own exams for the rotations. You schedule them after the respective rotation and take it within 2 weeks after it.
