I'm from Michigan and am looking for Fil-Ams in med school in the Philippines that I can network or meet with. I'm planning to visit this February to check some schools for med-proper (finished pre-med in US). Would appreciate your contact info. You may PM me if you wish. So far I am thinking of visiting UP, UST, UE and de la Salle. Thanks.

Hi guys, I'm also a fil-am that is going to attend medicine in the philippines this coming June 2009.
Just took my nmat this past nov. in L.A.
The Schools I chose in priority.
1.UERM / St. Lukes (up in the air which i will choose)
2.UST
Advice Below
Use the forums, valuemd and studentdoctornetwork have been valuable for my endeavor to applying to medicine in the philippines.
NMAT Preparation:
Part 1 is easy as cake.
Part 2 is hard as rocket science.
Result: but you can still get a good score if you do the right steps:)
haha I think, I haven't received my scores yet so don't believe me yet.
My personal experience visiting the schools, along with a little information.
UP:Not much to say about UP but a good school. Medicine facilities not as advanced as St. Lukes. Also if you are a Fil-am , i'm pretty sure it is next to impossible to get accepted to the school unless you have a connection to it. Mainly UP only accepts filipino citizens. Types of connections that may work, for example your parents graduated from UP. Then that is a chance for you.
UERM: At a first glance the campus looked small, however it's in Quezon City, Manila. Which is a pretty busy area. However that is only the Medicine Campus. School conditions are not as great as in the States, but it's not that bad either. The school is a 4 year course. UERM is one of the few schools that has relations with USA hospitals. So UERM offers fil-am students 4th year rotations in the states. I never got to see a lecture but the class size of 250-300 is good for me. Also knowing that it is only a medicine campus gives me a better feeling about smaller classes. Offers a scholarship for those with high nmat/gpa i think full scholarship. But that doesn't wave foreign fee i believe.
Class Size Average: 250-300
St.Lukes: Very nice campus because it also has a very nice modern hospital next to it. I went in the hospital, latest technologies and everything. St. Lukes is a private medical school. I think it is up there with UP in terms of competition. The class size is average 30-40 students. They are also finishing up a new huge hospital in Global City. Down the street of it is the embassy, a really popular club. But if you choose st. lukes get ready to have no life :) From what i heard it's that hard. But what med school isn't hard? it is a 5 year program, but for fil-ams i think 5th is optional. However i'm not sure about this rule, but if you are going to practice in California, 2 years of rotations are mandatory. Someone correct me if i'm wrong. St. Lukes also offers full and partial scholarships. Foreign fee not waved also I think.
UST: Big school campus, very nice looking. I heard it floods like crazy though. I only got to see the Admissions office and new hospital. Both look nice also. It is a very populated campus, it's medical school is mixed in with the unergrad school. For me I don't really like populated. Also with a populated campus comes populated medicine classes. 500 students I believe. I heard classes are hard as usual. Not sure if UST has 4th year rotations in the states.
Class Size Average:500+
I know i'm missing a lot of stuff but i will post more later.
Any questions? just pm me.
By the way, are you guys planning on starting this june 2009 or june 2010?

Fil-Am here currently enrolled in UST. Having a hard time looking for school loans for the coming Academic Year 09-10. Anybody else doing school loans or are you funding your schooling yourselves?

Sonic,
Didn't UST have stafford loans last year? I checked the foriegn approved school listing and UST is not on the list anymore, and neither is AUF. Did you ask why UST did not recieve staffords this year ? Fatima still has it.

I have not received my acceptance yet, but I plan to attend UERM this June 2009.
Does anyone know which textbooks we need or when we will get the list?
for the first year the books you will be needing are the basics like harpers biochemistry, guytons medical physiology snell's anatomy etc.
