i would like to ask why is increased platelet count a common accompanying feature in iron deficiency anaemia. thx

It may be related to platelet stimulation in a manner analogous to the EPO increase seen in many of the anemic states.

heres a wild stretch of imagination lol..
anemia causes low viscosity blood = high stroke volume = HTN ??
HTN over time = damage to endothelial cells of vessel walls
increased damage to vessels could increase the demand for angiogenesis
in angiogenesis endothelial cells secrete PDGF for clotting so perhaps platelet count is increased in that matter???
