Hey Everybody;
First thanks to everybody on ALL your insight to my post to "Chiro or not to Chiro"; but now I have another dilemma.

I was being treated by a Chiropractor that specialized in Upper Cervical treatment. The treatment went so well that I looked into Chiropratic as a profession (applied to school and everything). Well apparently the treatment didn't do much because after three years of visiting this Chiropractor I still ended up with two herniated disk and visit to the ER (this just occured in Oct1).

Now I'm lost, I am 28 and love being active (sports, exercise, etc..) but I have become very limited. I have been proposed cortisone injections, acupuncture, and I will see and surgeon in the next few days. I looked into Spinal Decompression but not sure if that another hoax. I realize some of you are DC's and MD's, so please if you have any opinions or alternative I would appreciate any info.
Thanks

without getting into specific treatment recommendations i would say that it doesn't take a brain surgeon to see that you need to see a brain surgeon (thats what the regular folks call them). we call them "neurosurgeons". i am very thankful through my years in practice to have access to some very fine neurosurgeons (including a pediatric n/s in birmingham). i am very impressed with this speciality. i don't know what type of surgeon you are scheduled to see, but if it were me, only a n/s.

good luck.

If possible, always try the least conservative option before the knife. Without knowing more about your condition, I do not think anyone here will give a more specific answer than that. Good luck...

hI,
I am sorry for your experience. It's hard to say if the conditions you have now are a result of the adjustments you received, or if you would have developed those maladies anyway.

I'm not so sure of the spinal decompression. My sister is receiving that treatment right now for neck problems related to arthritic changes. I think she is doing better but I'm not sure.

Research the cortisone injections carefully. You might decide that the benefits outweigh the risks, though.

Did you ever attend chiropractic school? Are you considering going to med school in the Caribbean?
