I was wondering how damaging are bad grades in a prereq would be to my applcation. I currently have a 3.4 because got straight C's in organic chemistry. I did well in biology, inorganic chemistry, doing physcis currently, and have done well in all my other classes. It just feels those C's in organic chmistry are such a black mark. I still ahve time to rais my gpa since Im currently a junior. Any input would be great.

A D or F is a black mark - a C hurts - but they happen. A C is not a death sentence for medical school. If all the rest of the grades are good. Go for a really good MCAT. Sometimes you just get bad or hard grading profs. Try to avoid them. I have known people to take organic at other schools to get around bad organic profs. Don't get me started on physics profs - they are generally the pits...

If they are interested they send you a follow up application.
BTW - my son is in a post bac pre-med program. He thinks little of physic profs and lab TA's. They are the least helpful of all the lab TA's he has had.

haha i know what u mean any recommendations on how many schools to apply to and how to pick which ones would be best to apply to. i was planning to apply to all my state schools in california and all out of states schools that fall within .1 of my gpa or so as well as those that accept a good amount of out of state students. so far i have close to 40 schools but should cut down once i take the mcat.
