The committee next discussed the rule concerning Physician in Training applicants from international medical schools that, effective on January 1, 2005, will require them to prove their medical schools are substantially equivalent to a Texas medical school. The committee directed staff to develop and maintain a list of international medical schools for which there is no concern about substantial equivalence based on past evaluations. Applicants from medical schools not included on the list would be required to prove that their schools are substantially equivalent to a Texas medical school, while the medical education of applicants from schools on the list would be assumed to be substantially equivalent.
