the reason im asking this is because i just looked at the estimated cost with is around $18750 per semester 1-4 and finally i came out that for the entire cost of AUA meaning all 10 semester including housing ect it comes out to $194000 but wait dont forget to add all the intrest rates wich eventually adds up to $500,000. also this is just with a 7% apr imagine what it would be with 12%. so i guess i will be 60 and still paying off the $500,000:roll:
And now with the stock/intrest rates being inthe double digits:shock::shock::shock::shock::shock::shock: it makes me feel really sick and my dreams :(:(:(:( gone.
Has any one done the math for the entire cost?
or at least share their story?
what is AUA doing to help us students in terms of the loans?
Oh dont forget about the loan aproval while you are in your 3 semester?
any type of help or tips would be nice

thanks for the info. It is true that AUA is Cheaper compared to US medical schools but i guess the problem is that we are not able to get federal aid etc... and as a result of this we end up with some high intrest rates.
So what can I/Students do to get more private loans as well as federal loans offered to us?;)
There is nothing we can do about trying to get Federal Loans. As ar as better private loans, suggest to the SGA to continue to talk to NS and FA about getting more/better lenders. Don't expect much though. The economy isn't great right now and it's because of the economy, not entirely AUA, that we can't get better loans

did you start this thread to state the obvious. What I don't understand that even despite the economy how come the new ross school has citibank loans.

As far as federal loans go, check this out http://www.valuemd.com/american-university-antigua-aua/163581-title-iv-loans-horizon.html As you may already know, only four caribbean med schools have federal loans at this time but that may be changing...

the Ross family must have some time with them or they cut some kind of BIG deal. what lender in the right mind would loan a brand new unproven school money?
this was really smart of UMHS to do this because half of these newer startup schools, even older schools like Spartan cannot get loans for the life of them.
the interest rate is higher, higher than it was when i had loans with SLX but i'm much rather have money than no money. as far as SGA working with the school to find new lenders, that's not going to do anything. CL, she's the expert and i'm sure her and her team are working hard to come up with something. look at other schools right now without federal loans, they're using Ed Invest too. there's nothing else out there right now so like i said, SGA trying to get involved isn't going to help.

I was how much money do you get back from the loan that you get every semester? After housing, transportation, tuition, health insurance, etc? I just want to get an idea of how much I will be able to live off of? I will be enter the class of Spring 2009...
