You can get Halal frozen chicken here...
there is canned corned beef...but i dont like the taste...
Actually a couple of ppl last semester slaughtered a goat...so its not unthinkable but i dont have the stomach for that kinda thing as well:P...
Best option is to utilize that 40 lbs carryon limit wisely and haul down as much frozen food as you possibly can bcoz once semester starts, you dont want to be cooking all the time.

Don't believe the cafeteria staff when they say the meat is halal. They are programmed by the lady that runs the cafeteria to say it is. How do I know? One day someone on line asked the lunch lady who was dishing out the food if the chicken was halal and she said yes, they were also serving pork that day and some followed with asking if the pork was halal. She said yes. When everyone started to laugh, she got pissed and asked what were we laughing at. She was dead serious.
Bring a lunch, the food there isnt that great anyway.
wow...that's so sad! Thanks for the heads up!

I'm sure that there are a lot of chickens running around. We can force some of them to lay eggs too!

I eat at the cafeteria often, and I think the food is good enough, everything seems to be prepared fresh everyday. The meats have to be frozen since a lot of it is imported. Most of the time they will place the "Halal" label on the glass in front of the food so that you know the chicken is halal. I don't think they would ever give you something you are not supposed to eat intentionally. If I was the cafeteria worker and someone asked me if pork was halal I would have answered the same way, "Yes it is." Why? because I live by a philosophy that tells me that when someone acts like they are stupid they need to be treated like they are stupid. By the same token if someone, respectfully, asks me a question and I don't know the answer I go and do all I can to find the correct answer for that mature and respectful person.
Believe me, maturity does not run rampant among certain groups.

Its not a question of forcing ur customs on others...i guess ppl just dont expect to be lied to, and thats fair to ask, esp. if they are paying for it.
With that said, my experiences have been a little different. The cafe owner is actually a very nice lady...a few times when the workers thought the food was halal, she said it wasnt...but mostly they do bring halal meat.I saw the packs once....
most of the ppl serving food are nice as well, they just get overwhelmed sometimes...and it also takes time to get used to the slow island lifestyle....
But if you want to be sure,i guess you can always go to town, and cook ur own food. I cook once a week, freeze the food and use it.Trust me,it will save u a whole lot of money. Also use the 40lbs carry on limit wisely, deep freeze food and bring it with you. DONT PUT COOKED FOOD IN UR LUGGAGE...!!!! The planes flying in are small and when new students come in, the luggage often comes in a bit late.
