Hey all on Saba and elsewhere,

As I write this Hurricane Gustav is bearing down on Grand Cayman Island, home of our sister school St Matthews. Some students, mostly first semesters, are on the island.

Please join me in sending prayers, good thoughts, groovy vibes and whatever positive energy you can spare for our fellow med students AND for the staff, faculty and locals on the island and nearby.

And while you're warming up, consider that as of now the same hurricane is predicted to go to Cat 2 status just before slamming into Houma, Louisiana late Monday/early Tuesday. We have several students doing clerkships in Houma and a number of recent Saba grads who live and practice medicine in that area.

Monday afternoon- those of you who are following see that Gustav has made landfall at Cocodrie, which is 13 miles from Houma.

Hang in there folks, if you haven't already evacuated!

I was doing clinicals 3 years ago -almost to the day at Chabert. Going through a hurricane is a life experience - I hope everyone relocated for a couple of days. I saw they closed both hospitals in Houma and started much earlier than when I was there.

Everybody - take care.

I hear that Houma-located students are not back in the hospital yet, that it was damaged by the recent hurricane(s), and may not be opening back up until Oct 09 at the latest...is this true?

I thought Saba's sister school is MUA?
