Hi, my name is Luis and i´m from the Dominican Republic, i´m currently a sophomore and i am looking foward to being a cardiothoracic surgeon.
I know what you might say, like i´m too young to think about this stuff and all that stuff, but i´m waaaaaaaaaaaaay to curious ;(
I can´t stop investigating on what do i need to achieve my goal, and i would love someone to post the steps i need to become a cardiothoracic surgeon (like the college, medic school ) and explain them to me.
Like what are the usmle (i don´t know if its spelled like that ) and all that.
Please satisfy my doubts ;3

By the way, if you see any orthographic mistakes on my english please correct me. I´m still learning english.

sophomore in a US college? if so then heres what you need to do:

1. whatever your major is strive to achieve a high gpa 3.5-4.0
2. take the prerequisite science courses for medical school; physics with lab, chemistry with lab, organic chemistry with lab, biology with lab
3. prepare to sit for the mcat when you finish the above courses
4. enhance your chances of getting into medschool by getting involved in extracurricular activities
5. start medschool applications

for now worry about the getting good grades and passing the mcat, you can worry about usmle once you get into medical school. Also consult you Premed adviser if one is available to you, good luck

I´m studying in the Dominican Republic sorry, HIGHSCHOOL xD.
Now answer again xD *-*
and also define gpa. ok thats all i´ll ever ask ;)
And if gpa has something to do with my grades and my average (which is what i think ) in my country its not like 3.5 and 4.0, it´s from 0 to 100
and my grades are like....between 85 and 98 :) some 100´s but i don´t know.
Sorry for thinking in all this stuff so early. It´s just that i´m really curious, and i won´t sleep till i satisfy my doubts, i just can´t

like the above poster said..... basically you have to get very high grades in high school, get into a good university and get very high grades again and apply to medical school. Once you get into medical school you will worry about the usmle and the thoracic surgery.

You can check with prospective medical school’s to ascertain the reputation of the two schools available in your country and then attend the best one and get great grades.
