Hey fellow Canadians:
Where do you buy your medical insurance from? Care to share the premium here? Thanks!

Try Atlas America or Patriot America. Though it's based in the US, it's meant for international students traveling anywhere in the world. You can get coverage for as low as $20 a month.

hmm, i checked your suggestion out, the lowest price I get is $110.11 for 4 months ($2500 deductibles, $50,000 Max benefits), which doesnt correspond to $20/month. How did you do it?

I got mine through Blue Cross. You get 10% of travel insurance if you already have a health care policy with them. There website says exactly what they cover. My quote was for $600 for 365 days.

Try Atlas America - and select 'No' for US as destination country. For age group 18-29, $2500 deductible, and $50,000 benefits, you should get $20 a month.

Can Canadians use their health insurance that covered them in Canada when they go to Grenada to study, without having to pay anything more?

What insurance are you referring to? If you have private insurance in Canada that will cover expenses above and beyond what the province will pay, then that should be sufficient. But, if you mean regular provincial insurance, that will be entirely insufficient if you need to be evacuated to a Miami hospital.

This is basically just emergency insurance - in case of an accident or adverse event (the chances of which are pretty low). If something like that does occur, it might happen just once during your entire time in Grenada - in which case you'll have saved enough money over 2 years to account for the deductible anyway.
As for physician visits, consultations, exams, prescriptions, etc - the school clinic covers that for all SGU students.

Thank you. So your suggestion is that the school clinic covers all the casual medical expenses for SGU students, and we just need to buy emergency insurance?
What do other ppl think? Any opinions?

Depends on what you mean by casual medical expenses. The clinic only provides basic primary care. Anything that we'd normally go to a hospital for, wouldn't be covered. We also have to pay for our own medications and immunizations.
Basically, if you're healthy, just get emergency insurance. If you have health issues, or are taking medication, or have family and kids, it's better to get proper coverage.
