I am trying to do on some research on the differences between Ross and St. George and they do seem to be pretty comparable but I am wondering what the reasons were you have chosen to apply at St. George instead of Ross?
I am sorry if this has already been asked, which I am sure it has but when I went to do the search I did not find what I was looking for.
Thanks in advance
the academic support for its students is pretty strong at SGU (from my experience thus far); but the two issues that helped me make SGU as my top choice was its investment in New York for clinical spots for its students.....................and its remarkable match list.

Why I chose to apply to SGU - met a number of residents at Georgetown University in D.C. from the island, one of which was going to be Chief. No issues with rotations and nice campus. Possibility of coming back to the D.C. area for rotations, or being close to D.C. while in NY/NJ
Why I decided not to apply to Ross - first impressions count. My first interaction with Ross was at a med school fair at my undergrad. I started talking to the two representatives who were there, and gave them a stat sheet. They took one look at it and immediately said, "No one else will accept you. But we'll look at your entire app. You should put in an application right now." I don't know if they were trying to be comforting, but it felt like I was being cornered and as if they were trying to lure me into something that wasn't being represented properly. This was reinforced somewhat by the Jefferson rep being very positive about my application (fat lot of good that did, but anyway) afterwards.
The whole thing left a bad taste in my mouth and I decided (swore was more like it) that I would not apply to Ross for med school. I don't know if that's a good reason to base application decisions on, but there you go. I'm happy I got into SGU, and I'm also happy that I didn't have to apply to Ross and break my vow.

2 reasons I chose SGU: It seemed to have a better reputation (for whatever reason), and it has a more structured school year, similar to the US semester system, with proper summer and winter breaks (unlike Ross, which has a trimester system with only 2 weeks between terms).
One reason I almost didn't choose SGU: cost. And if I hadn't received the Peace Scholarship, which lessened the burden somewhat, I may not have gone to SGU.

Very helpful, my husband has been accepted to Ross but he is going to apply at St. George also. I have heard mixed reviews on both, it is such a big decision and we would be bringing two small children so safety is an issue for us also

I am here with 2 small children. My husband and I feel very safe in GND, but then we lived in Baltimore for 6 years, so anything will feel safer than that. Let me know if you have any questions about bringing kids down.

I would agree that the biggest difference between Ross and SGU lies in the clinical experience. SGU has more spots than they can use as a result of this: NYC’s Health and Hospital Corporation and St. George’s University Agreement - St. George’s University - Caribbean Medical & Veterinary School (http://www.sgu.edu/website/sguwebsite.nsf/news-events/news-archives07-HHC.html)
Ross students are experiencing delays.

I attend SGU.
From what i get, SGU is wayyy too expensive. Its a nice campus and all but darn its expensive. I just finished first term and felt like i learned a lott. reason i went to sgu is for the stability in clincial year. However, i cant comment on that topic because i am not there yet.
Ross, i hear has better step prep, they actually take nbme shelf exams (whereas sgu has an internal exam), is cheaper, btu hear their clincial placement is not very well right now.
Island was not a big deal for me, i can live anywhere.
So...it comes down to this, i wish i could have attended ross for basic sciences, then transfer to sgu for clincials.........................however that is not possible.
Best of luck

I am like most other. I choose SGU because of its good clinical rotation placement and great residency placement. Also more people, doctors or not, are more famailar with SGU and are quicker to say that it is a good school. However, I think that the deal breaker for me was during the interview process. Ross had me interview with a office representitive from the school. He took some notes and sent it off to admissions. SGU, on the other hand, had me interview with an alumni, which I really liked. I was able to see what kind of hopistal he woked in and ask about his opinions on the school face to face (I think its harder to lie to someone when you are looking at them). Just SGU's way of handling everything seemed more organized. Cost never really held me back from making my decision. I knew that no matter where i was going to go, the costs would be very high. I just decided not to worry about the money and accept that fact that it will take a couple of years to pay off my "dream".
