Do games work over Firefly?

I tried Starcraft and it said it could not initiate IPX protocol.

I know Steam does. Played TF2 a few times and connection to US servers was actually pretty decent. I bet it will suck once August comes. Thats the only game I brought with me though.

Thanks. Have you tried HL2 over the network, though?

This is just from observation, but the Firefly network seems to block all ports above a certain number. I can connect to an Internet server on port 22, but I cannot connect to the same server on port 1194. It seems to be port based, not TCP vs. UDP, or dependent on which protocol you use.

IPx is not installed on xp and vista by default. fudge around the network setting and install the IPX protocol and it should work.

good call. I have vista and IPX is no longer supported, apparently. I'll have a look.

Tried a UDP game. Didn't work. Will try with Hamachi.

They blocked Steam once everyone came back in August. Sucks, playing TF2 was a great stress reliever and the connections to USA servers were not to bad.

Seriously it is a little ridiculous that games are banned from the network. They don't use up a lot of bandwidth and they really r good stress relievers. I've been trying to get Warcraft III to work with no luck. If any1 has any suggestions or advice on how to make it work please pm me.

Hamachi should indeed bypass everything

Hamachi is only for direct connections to other players though WC3 is really only fun when u can play dota with like 10 kids so yeah... Lol and I'm not stressed out now but I have a feeling I probably will b somewhere down the line and wasting a couple of hours playing video games might ease that a little
