Hello everyone,
I've searched the forum and didn't find too much info about it. I'm looking at the native programs in Russian or Romanian. Can anybody attest their level of instruction? Would Romania be much better in terms of the quality of education and recognition?

Does it mean the university is too bad?

I haven't seen any students or grads posting on this forum from Moldova... that doesn't mean that there aren't any, but I sure haven't seen them. Also, Moldova isn't Russia, it's now a separate country.

About all I can say for sure, having flown on Moldovan Airlines during my fact-finding trip to E-Eu medical schools, is that they have some absolutely lovely flight attendants. I'm sure that helps a lot! Good luck.

How does that have anything to do with the OP's question?? I'm sure it helps personally but doesn't exactly answer the OP's concern....

LOL, what where you doing on Moldova Airlines, if you didn't go to Moldova? And what were your general impressions from the E-Eu med. schools? Any recommendations? How about Romania?
I know they have some lovely gals there, but that's not really my point. I mean, there are lovley gals in Czechia (I just love the slavic appearance) and when you go to study medicine, you probably don't want too many distractions, so that's not necessarily an adantage.
And I know it's not part of Russia - I was born there. I just can't find much information about their medical university. I'm considering it 'cos it's really cheap and I can start even this year. I can attend the local language program, so it will be recognized, but I'm not sure how bad (or how good) an MD from Moldova medical university sounds. Besides, knowledge is actually more important to me than the papers, and I'm not sure at all about their program and the instruction. My folks say it used to be fine, but that was a couple of decades ago, and judging by what's going on in Moldova - the poorest country in Europe - the standard of the institution and of the instruction may have plummetted. That's why I'm trying to get some recent first hand information.

Language is not a problem - in fact, I can study in Russian in Moldova, and they also have English instruction. I was also more inclined towards Romania, the problem is their English studies are not universally recognized. Californian Medical Board doesn't recognize Romanian English programs.

I would definitely recommend Moldova as you'll be studying in the native language program which means that it's definitely CA accredited (for the US). Romania on the other hand, would indeed be a slight gamble but since it's part of the EU now, it might be of some advantage but the CA accredition will not happen anywhere in the near future.

You're correct, shrey, the comment about the comely Moldovan flight attendants doesn't answer his question at all. It was simply an off-the-cuff remark related (albeit peripherally) to Moldova in general. Just some light-hearted banter in the middle of the seriousness, I certainly hope no-one is upset or offended.

To answer the other question, I flew on Moldovan Airlines because they were covering that leg of my flight purchased through Malev Hungarian Airlines, from Zagreb to Sofia.

My overall impressions of the schools I visited were favorable, in general. They are posted in detail on this website, if you want to read them. As long as you are willing to work hard and study for the boards like crazy you can probably get through and achieve your goals. If you coast or slide through you might graduate, but you will never work in the States or Canada. The USMLE will see to that.

I agree with shrey that Moldova might be a better way to go than Romania, based solely on the feedback I have read from foreign students at Romanian schools. There are some fine schools in Romania (Cluj, etc.), but if you want CA-approval, you want to make very sure that you are attending a school which has that approval in advance. Many of the programs tailored to English-speakers are not, so look out for that.

Devildoc, of course no offence taken. :p

I'm actually also looking at Czech Republic now - only recently found out one can study (in Czech) for free, I do speak Czech and just love that country. Too late to start this year in Czech though. I'll try to find out more about the acceptance chances and the option to transfer to the free Czech program after a year in the English one. If that's possible, it will be cheaper than Moldova, and I'm pretty sure the instruction is better, not to mention 6 years anywhere in the Czech Republic are a much better experience than in Moldova.

Hey Ygrec, you can also find out from Charles University if at all they accept transfer students from Moldova...if so, you can start right away and save that time. But do check if this is possible. Or (if time is not that big a concern), you can just take this year off

Thanks Shrey,
time is a concern, but unfortunately they won't take a transfer student from Moldova - not that I'm surprised. Now I'll have to figure out what's the best way to get into the Czech program. 6 years of tuition in the English program is a bit too much for me, as I don't expect to work much during the studies.

Yes working really isn't a choice in med school. I would recommend that you prepare hard for the entrance exam as it's quite competitive. Good luck!!

And how do you suggest should I prepare for it? Any recommended books?

Just try going through your 11th and 12th biology, chemistry and physics books. Note that if you've studied in the States, you should use the books you used for the AP/IB curriculum. You can also search online for some question papers....I'm sure you'll find some.

going to testimatu university is not a bad idea it will cost you practically nothing. it is accredited. im from Moldova originally,so i recommend it. i would go their for med school but my wife doesn't agree with it. she likes cali. the good thing about going to Moldova is the cheap cost of the school, beautiful ladies, and the relaxed environment. but then again only resort to it as a last option. try eu schools!
