i notice that when i look at a computer screen for more than a couple of hours i get vertigo and headach. I wonder if i can take a paper version of step 1. Either way, it just seems unethical to make people look a computer screen for so long. If u have any info on taking a paper version, i would appreciate it .

suck it up and get use to it. or take some anti-emetics before you take the step 1.

I don't really enjoy taking tests. What can the NBME do for me?

yeah, that kinda sounded mean. but the truth is, you gotta get use to it. i hate staring at a screen but you have to for step 1, 2, and 3.

if you have a true genuine problem that it makes you completely incapable of taking long exams on the computer, then go see a doctor, get tested and contact the NBME. Otherwise there are many people out there that get headaches after staring at a computer screen for many hours.

.

it's not only true, it's genuine as well. It's not really the headache, it's the dizziness that gets to me. Things will start spinning. But, yea, i guess i will have to see a doctor for it. I wouldnt say in makes me "completely incapable", also it's the fact that it's just cruel. We are not their animals that gotta stare at a computer screen for 8 hours because thats how they want it.

Maybe you should see a chiropractor?

I agree with longchode - my mom had terrible vertigo and found that 2 chiropractic adjustments took care of it.

you will have to have a documented disablity as defined by the Americans with Disablities Act to get any special consideration or a documented learning disablity to get special testing conditions--and best get started on it now...you will need rock solid documentation for the USMLE people to budge.

and you don't have to stare at the screen- you can take braeks you know..manpants, dude...invest in a pair!
