does anyone know which would be better for global health insurance if anyone is using either company or heard anything about either one? IMGlobal.com (international medical group) or Globalhealthinsurance.net. Just trying to get some opinions before we purchase it.

As a follow up question - is this something incoming students should be looking at now or are things like health insurance taken care of when we reach the island?
Thanks!

well from what I understand it is something you need before getting to the island. AUC offers insurance through the school, or you can buy it from somewhere else, like the two i posted above. My fiance needs to either submit something to AUC saying he is getting theirs if he doesnt get AUC's then he needs to show proof of insurance from somewhere else and it needs to be a global one from what I understand.

I believe this topic has been covered in other threads, but just a heads-up from my own perspective. I called my insurance provider (Blue Cross-Blue Shield) and asked about global coverage; they informed me that my plan is covered globally. They also sent me a letter confirming this and I was able to give that to my admissions advisor. Everyone's indvidual situation is different, but it's far, far cheaper for me to keep my own insurance than to purchase the provider through AUC.

Bubbles - do I remember that you are from Orlando? I just tried to go online to buy the IMG Insurance at they said that if you are from Florida the coverage is not available. I am looking at other options including trying to get coverage through my current carrier, Aetna. I'll let you know if I find out anything else.

I was looking into getting global health insurance before leaving for the island. To have coverage in both the US and on the island it was going to cost me $2600/yr with a $500 deductible. i was talking to my orientation advisor and she said that the insurance that school is offering is only $350 per semester.

I currently use Blue Cross Blue Shield, which comes with an automatic enrollment in their Blue Card global program. For my wife and I it is $280 per month, but we have guaranteed insurance in the US plus reimbursement if we encounter any medical fees on the island.

This is a bit late, but per an email I received July 21st from the registrar there will be a health insurance checkpoint during the registration process on Saturday, August 30th. It's not clear, but it appears you can purchase AUC's insurance there. However, it'd probably be best to get everything sorted out beforehand. :)

Yeah, this is what I heard too. Either you get it before hand, or you buy AUC's insurance on the spot.

When purchasing AUC's insurance, does anyone know if it is possible to pay for the first semeseter up-front and then pay for the rest of the year at a later time, when we have cashed our refund checks?

Does anyone know exactly how much the health insurance that is offered through the school is and any details like coverage and deductible? I'd like to know my options before getting there.

Price depends on age, somewhere around 320 I believe for under 30yo. It only covers accidents and sickness. Here is the detailed coverage: American University of the Caribbean - Injury and Sickness Insurance Policy (http://www.bollingerinsurance.com/auc)
I do believe some coverage will change in September, but I doubt it will be something significant
