ahhh! today was such a big day.. I sent in my application for UNIBE! (sept. 08) =) I'm happy I finally did it, I procrastinated for so long.. my best friend is sending hers in tomorrow. I'm very excited yet still nervous because there's still that chance of being rejected. I have basically decided that I'm going to UNIBE and no where else.. I hope i get in, I have all the requirements they asked for

is this a forum for celebrating birthdays, wedding anniversaries and stock market gains too?
Maybe its a thread that should go elsewhere where bored people chat about their successes or failures in life.
There isnt even a period at the end of her thread!

what purpose does this thread serve?
how in any way is it going to add helpful productive information to others who come to these forums?
And vcruz wants to know if she is american etc etc etc?? Duh!!!!!!!!!!!!

the Big News is that im gonna recommend ( and who really cares what i do right?) that people post ONLY after thinking for a few minutes what value their thread has for others who value VALUE MD.

Does S99 want congratulatory cards sent to her?
What happens when she sits for the USMLES part2. Will we have to hear about that too and have a party for her?
I really should stay out of this, I might get scorned or spanked but someone has to acknowledge the immaturity and irrelevance of threads like this one.
There is no question asked here. There is nothing gained from such a thread. There is nothing learned from such a thread. Do you all not want to maintain some level of sophistication and education here?
I guess what im not saying here is " who cares S99 "?

Go ahead, ridicule me. Atleast im looking to make these forums informative.

I have read other forums that you again have said negative things. clearly your a negative person and sorry if it bothers you so much that I'm happy. look if you don't like what I post then don't read it. and sure ill post birthdays and anniversaries and anything else that I feel like posting because I don't need your approval.. deal with it.. thanks =)and also thank you jay for the good luck!

Hey you will get in. Dont worry. When I or anybody of my buddies pass the steps I'm gonna write it over every forum, webpage, chalkboard, and bathroom wall I can. I might even get a tattoo that says PASS. I've always been of the opinion that if you dont want to see something dont look at it.

Losack question;

As a psychiatrist, when your patient informs you of what they consider "good news" /"positive event in their life, would you derogate them, or be supportive?

Maybe you are having a bad day, but to me it seems like like a genuinely happy person sharing with others that also have an interest in studying medicine.

I am just a lowly emergency department attending that does mundane things like intubations, chest tubes, central lines, and once in a while, saves a life so who knows what my opinion is worth?

first doctor with all due respect she is not my patient.
and if the patient was in long term treatment it might be very appropriate not to react either way! everything is transferential ... ( hey i have to show you my prowess dont i ? )
and
secondly this is hypothetical i dont even know a thing about s99
nor do you doctor.
what i hear from her here and in other forums im certainly not impressed.
thridly i thought this forum was for information seeking not for
announcing that someone put an application in. Thats just not IMHO though this is a free country and free web forum worthy here.
i think there is a section called the lounge where it might be better attended to.
fourth thats why you went into ER medicine and i went into the SUBCONSCIOUS specialty which sometimes has to be taken literally. I m usually a swell guy and
more than good humoured in practice but this childlike feel just got to me.
you might be right. I might be right. Thats what makes us human.

i just thought these forums were to gain more information than we had prior to posting our threads.

all the best

Both us us as ex UCE students, i will accept PTSD as a possible rationale.

Was it Freud that said "don't worry be happy" ?

absolutely a rule in PTSD
i was there in 1976- the worst of all nightmares.......
i had no school, just rats, no lights, little water, more like areas of AFRICA and HAITI
matric 4096......
had years of psychotherapy... now i love the place been there all over the island atleast 50 times from Cap haitian to Monte Cristi to Higuey to Las terrenas

cant stand the whining and inane questions asked on these forums.
what school is better, blah blah
IMHO just pick a school and do it! get the exams done nothing else matters
and the hardships build character. These "kids" are IMHO very spoiled.

Yeah us "kids" that are nice to each other are totally spoiled. We never have to do anything like the guys from back in the day. We are such little crybabies...some of us even have to do internados and everything.

I am the oldest of 20 yes 20 kids. I have a wife and child that was born HERE with severe birth defects. Yeah man, real spoiled. Living off a prestamo thats not really enough for one student in a country with one of the most overinflated currencies in the world. Mommy and daddy dont support me. I have been a lifeguard, emt, carpenter, landscaper, tour guide and more. I had a guy with a machete climb through my bathroom window wednesday night. Thats not the tip of the iceberg. Most guys I know had careers before the RD. Dont be so presumptuous about "spoiled kids" from what you read in an online forum. I mean I could just as easily make a passive aggressive reference to "narcissistic psyciatrists who think they know everything from NY", but I wont because I'm a "swell guy".

I and the other spoiled kids are here to share pertinent info about what is going on here, in these days in, UNIBE, UCE and wherever else WE live and study.

Peace.

Sure I can "visit" UCE SPDM also but it sure is a different/infinitely better experience knowing I don't have to ever repeat being a student there, something of which even to this very day is apparently still a crap experience (uce worthlessness reinventing itself thread)

May I pose a question to you albeit hypothetical? Today, if you were an aspiring medical student and had the choices available today, UCE included, would you choose UCE?

hard to say
the capital is one of my favorite places to party in, the HOTEL STO DGO one of the nicest places to stay in in that chaotic hot city. It would probably be Sto Dgo.
However i had a wonderful like ( except for school ) in SPM. House on the Caribbean
maids, car, dominican wife, i actually had a hard time leaving. SPM allowed you to study few distractions. Its tough to say. I would definitely go to a SPANISH speaking country, the USA is gonna be bilingual pretty soon.
Tough question......the way i feel about INDIA AS I DO , it might head over there.
yep glad thats all over with. When did you graduate?

"A Psychiatrists ' View of this World"

I have to admit your photos from around the world are very very nice.(honestly)

Especially lovely is the one captured of you in tights waving a baton at the NYC Parade. Infinitely more interesting than any herminia nightclub photos could possibly be.

I graduated in 1982.
