Hey,
was wondering how anyone from outside the EU went about applying for a student visa to the Czech Rep.
Did you need stuff like Police clearance and evidence of Health insurance? and how long did the whole process take?

In fact if you're in Czech Republic already and want to apply for a long term visa, then you have to go to the local czech police station and apply for it. They ask you for Health insurance, police clearance, and bank balance verification statements. Make sure your insurance is valid until the time you'll be staying there otherwise they'll fine you quite a bit. But if you're not in CR yet, then you should get in touch with the Czech Consulate in your country. Also if you are entering into the first year, you will also need to provide them with a copy of the acceptance letter that your received from the Uniiversity. Also they will ask you for your current residence in CR and everytime you change your residence, you should go and notify the local police authorities. Besides these documents, I don't remember having shown any other documents.
If you want to renew your visa (ie. if you've finished a years stay), then you have to again go to the Police Station and follow the same procedure except instead of the letter of acceptance, you have to provide a continuation of studies copy that you get from the University (which you get only after having passed all the exams for that year).
