Question for AUC students who are further along in their education...

I am applying for my loans for this fall, and noticed the federal government limits you to $138,500 (68500 in subsidized) total. Because I took loans out for undergrad and my masters degree, I do have a healthy amount of debt already.
Does this debt factor into this "limit" that is set? If i reach this limit, will the rest of my education have to be funded soley with private loans? Do med students get a larger limit?? Thanks

ps. helpful website for finding out how much you owe, but may depress some people lol

are you sure that is the limit for medical students...I think when I was researching some of that kinda stuff the med student max was higher than other graduate/law programs...

That is true, health professionals have a higher limit than "regular" grad students... but I don't know the max.

Remember that this limit (which according to the document AUC sent is correct at $138,500, though I have heard that health professional students may have it slightly higher) applies to the Federal Stafford loans only. The Grad PLUS loan is a federal backed credit-based loan, and it is this that fills in the gap between the Stafford limit and the cost of attendance. Unlike Stafford, there is no lifetime limit on the amount that can be borrowed; qualification depends on credit. And yes, from what I have read, Stafford loans taken out in undergrad are a part of the lifetime limit. Hope this helps...
