Hello,
I am starting my Internal Medicine rotation in the Caritas Health Care system in Queens. Does anyone know the address or relative location of the hospital this rotation? Also what is the typical commencement of morning rounds...I am commuting and would like to have an idea of my schedule.
Thanks
Mike

Hey!
Caritas consists of St. Johns,Mary Immaculate and Wyckoff Heights. St. Johns is on Queens Blvd across from Queens Center Mall. The V G and R trains stop right by the hospital at the Woodhaven Blvd. station. Middle Village, Jackson Heights, Forest Hills, Kew Gardens are all easy commutes to St. Johns. The rotation really depends on the number of students that are in your group. When I was there only 14 students were rotating and there were 14 interns so we were each assigned to run with an intern. If you had a good intern, which I did, then the rotation is excellent. The chief resident at the time was excellent..another factor. The teaching rounds can be excellent, good patient contact as each intern will handle anywhere from 10-14 patients at a time. Days start at 7:30am and end around 5pm. Calls were done in line with your intern generally. That's how it was for me...almost 2 years ago. Mary Immaculate isn't too far from St. Johns. It is by Jamaica Hospital..just a little farther down at 153rd St. and Jamaica Ave. Both hospitals are old and will give you a feeling that they are closing any day..but the continue to remain in business. Mary Imm. is downright like a hospital out of a Stephen King novel. But, unlike Wyckoff the people are friendly and care about teaching.

BQHCNY (http://www.bqhcny.org/) Here is a link for the Caritas System. Yes, Mary Immaculate is a creepy place, especially at three in the morning. The only thing that is scarier is wandering around the outside of the hospital at three in the morning.
