I'm sorry if this has been answered before, I really searched.

My question is as follows: in Wroclaw one has to do 4 weeks apprenticeship during summer, this is what it looks like

1st nurse's assistant
2nd outpatient clinic
3rd internal medicine
4th general surgery and emergency
5th pediatrics and gynecology with obstetrics.

This is obligatory and the student has to arrange it himself; it's common to do this in one's own country, not in Poland.

Personally I think it's a pity that the University can't arrange for this and it sounds complicated to apply for it every year, then rent a flat for 4 weeks only, etc.

So: what's your opinion in this regard, and how does it work in Warsaw, is it the same?

Its principally the same in Warsaw, go to the webpage Medical University of Warsaw (http://www.wum.edu.pl/english/) >curriculums >download each years curriculum, you will find the instructions for the summer practice at the end of each document.

The reason it is "obligatory" to arrange the practice yourself is pretty simple..it would be impossible to satisfy the demands of so many different countries internal regulations...and that would cost money. I am sure thats the same deal you would find if you studied in your native country and wanted do a clerkship abroad (unless you would apply summer clerkship through a cooperation b/w med schools. Warsaw have couple of those, but they primarily intended for polish students)

Its not the end of the world if you dont manage to arrange a summer apprenticeship, I havent done one of mine...and you dont have to follow the suggested apprenticeship...and that goes for most med schools in Poland (english div.) Again the reason is simple...1) they dont care 2) Student accreditation regulations differ between different European countries
