I was just wondering about how shipping items from St. Maarten works?

redcastro had mentioned that if we wanted to buy office furnture (desk) that we could have it shipped over from St. Maarten?

Are their any office supply stores on St. Eustatius?

How much would something like that cost having a desk shipped over, and how would I get to St. Maarten?

Does the island have ferry boats we can take over to other islands?

If anybody could answer, I would greatly appreciate the aid.

Thank You

The stores take care of shipping the items for you. The cost is pretty minimal - $10 or $20 extra, usually. It comes on the regular supplies boat, but then you have to find someone with a vehicle to help you get it delivered.

There is only one passenger transportation modality off Statia - Win Air. No ferry boats (although considering what Win Air charges, and the abusive credit card and baggage policies they have now, I don't know why not).

There is a store that calls itself an office supply store on Statia but their selection is very minimal. They will order stuff from the store on St. Maarten but the cost is very, very high. There is a couple of stores that sell furniture including office-type chairs but the quality and selection is low considering the prices. One of my roommates bought a chair on-island, then flew to St. Maarten to buy a decent office chair, and desk.

Lighting can also be an issue - you'll want a good desk lamp or two.
