Would ANYONE care to tell me how getting rid of the Kaplan Review program (Which is the STANDARD of review programs) and replacing it with a teacher's High Yeild method's will be beneficial to anyone other than the owners of the school?
Granted by getting rid of Kaplan and using a method that was taught in Texas however many years ago (I would say 10 but I know someone will correct me) by a very sweet teacher will cut down on some finances the school has to deal with, BUT I fail to see how this technique can replace the STANDARD.
Granted also, they said some "elements" of the PASS program will be implemented into the "Texas" method, but really??? unless I see a PASS STUDY GUIDE with videos..... I think copying the amount of hours they [Pass] hold a teaching session for is a cop-out.
And yes also I can easily fix my concerns by taking a Kaplan review course AFTER I finish Med 5, but wouldn't it be SO much better if we could take it as part of our curriculum rather than having to pay an EXTRA $5000 to take an EXTRA review course?
ANNNND I think also that if you were to try and study for step 1, with only the materials the school has given you, textbooks and power points, with NO REVIEW books...... you're joking.

well keep in mind, reivew programs are generally not a part of medical schools but rather optional for students who want it- a minority in the Us certainly but more popular in the caribbean.

So, is that kinda how they do it in IL (having a professor and his son teach a review course)?

I prefer the PASS review + extra material, FA.

As long as their incorporate FA into their "high yield" program, I'm good.

What is the time period (schedule) for the review course during 5th term?

GUESSSS WHAT!!!!! I am happy to say that after talking with administration, Statia will still have some kind of FORMAL review class. Whether that will continue to be Kaplan, Falcon or PASS or a combination (later one might be more likely), we will have to wait and see. :)
P.S. My main concern was not that we keep Kaplan but rather that we have a plan to study for Step 1 after we graduate.

So, who actually teaches these review courses?

main teachers, but i think there is other help
on Statia - Dr Trout (she is the one who is developing it & she is the one who raised UT-MBs STEP 1 pass rate by 15%)
in IL - Dr Kahn

Kinda iffy in terms of Dr.T's ability to raise our USMLE score considering that was 10 years ago. The USMLE is completely different now compared to then. I don't know what the school is going to do to synchronize the 5th term IL program along with the program here.
