I am always surprised at the rudeness and/or inappropriateness of some "profesores." It reminds me of my days in basic training when some TI would get in your face and chew you out for reasons only he/she knew. In this case it's worse because I'm paying to be ridiculed and belittled.

Don't get me wrong, I'd say about 85% of the profesores are serious, no-nonsense professionals, but it seems every semester there is one who has made it his/her personal mission to make this harder than it should be...

A close friend of mine recently graduated from a university here and remarked that she actually earned two advanced degrees; one in medicine, the other in "b**t kissing". Guess I better start exercising my musculos de la boca.

this seems to be present in most of the schools, some of it is because some of these professors and school officials think/know/feel the students are there because they couldnt get into US schools and therefore have no choice and are desperate or maybe even inferior. The irony is that a lot(not all) of these professors are in the same boat; they cant practice or teach in the US and thats why they are in a caribb school.

Yeah thats just a fact of life here. Insulting people and beatin on the work is an art form. Its the yelling at and insulting of the patients that gets to me. There is nothing you can avoid it, other than knowing exactly what you should, all the time, but sometimes you can even come up with an awnser straight out of a textbook and still get eaten alive. Just remember the goal, and where you are going. And where they will be when you are done.

something I learned the hard way was it's "rude" to correct the professor in class even if you're quoting straight from the textbook! who knew? :)

You did what?? I admire your chutzpah... naivete... deathwish? Experience has taught me never to correct / question (at least not to their face) those in "authority".
