Missing Residency Match

So I've been looking into how the schedule for school/residency works.

I have two simple questions:

If I were to start MD 1 in May 2009 which residency match would I make?
If I were to start MD 1 in Sep 2009 which residency match would I Make?


Now I know it depends on a bunch of stuff, but im sure theres a general answer that can be given for this?

Count 10 semesters (plus breaks, step preps, etc.)
The match day is sometime in March, residency starts July.

Someone told me something about how, if I start in sept 2009 I won't get my usmle step-2 done and scores in on time so I will miss the match and that I should start in May 2009 to avoid this... Is there any validity to this? An explanation?

Appreciate the help, been doing tons of reading its so much to take in at once.
