but i remember reading somewhere that there is a max tuition they can charge. after a specific semester, you don't get charged anymore other than what you have to pay for electives and other misc fees

Correct 10 semesters of tuition. If you are not done after that point, need to pay for elective fees, health insurance, malpractice insurance, and administrative fee. Without elective fees, cost is about $800 dollars.

I am confused. I know we get (or got) financial aid for up to six semesters of basic sciences...and I thought that if it took you seven or (eek...) eight semesters, you had to pay out of pocket.

Ok, so, say a person is on Semester Seven and are taking Path 2 and PD4. They don't have to pay tuition ($8900) and they pay only fees (approx $625) and their living expenses? Then what happens the following semester, their eighth semester, taking ICM, CT, and Kaplan, just pay the fees and living expenses?

if you're repeating, say, semester 4, you don't call it "semester 5". You're still on semester 4 by the book, and you're gonna pay tuition for it again, either by finaid or robbing a bank.

if it takes you 7 years to reach Semester #10, you pay for all 7 years.

actually i'm not too sure you're right on this one. i believe there is a certain point at which you are taking ** classes but not paying tuition. i believe you pay tuition only for up to 6 sems of **, and up to 5 sems clinicals.

If it takes 7 semesters for a student to finish 5 semesters of basic science it is the student fault they couldnt pass their classes. If SMU fails to schedule rotations for a student and it takes more than 5 semesters to complete your rotations then you dont pay for the extra semester cause SMU is at fault.

i believe most schools have a cap. i know of severa; students that took 6-7 sems to clear basics after the mess that was ivan. one told me tonight that she didn't pay tuition for sems after 6. not sure if this still is legit for current sems.

You're correct. You have to pay tution/fees for any basic science classes you take. Whether it takes 5 semesters or 10 semesters, if they're basic sciences, you have to pay for them.

However, once in clinicals, you only pay for FIVE CLINICAL SEMESTERS (unless you fail a rotation then you have to retake that at your own expense). Also you have to pay for any elective rotation fees that are attached to your rotations.
Avoid this by doing elective rotations at hospitals that don't charge you for clinicals (they're out there, just keep your eyes open). You can even find some that give you an ID badge pre-loaded with your on-call meals for the duration of your rotation, free parking, scrubs, etc.
If you don't have to, don't get stuck paying an arm and leg for crappy elective fees at crappy rotations sites.

Yeah you always pay tuition when the semesters begin no matter what. This is way you dont pay for more than 5 semesters of clinicals.

But you will need 10 weeks or rotation in order to receive financial AID.

And the clinical semester can over lap a lil bit. IT could start in feb, or july, or dec. It all depends on your schedule. Expect to pay tuition 5 times for 5 clinical semesters

Yeah, and that came out of you mom and dad's taxes, so not really free either.
