So far, I am able to map down the following start/end dates for the first 4 terms. However, can someone provide me with the start/end dates for the rest of the terms. It would be great if someone can give us a run down through 2012.
Thank you!

totally off the topic:
when we do rotations in the hospitals, can we wear our own scrub? or is there a hospital scrub?

depends on which hospital you attend for 3rd and 4th year rotations, for the most part, you'll need to buy your own scrubs.

for term 2, although class starts on the 12th, i booked my flight already to fly down on the 8th, so i can make the registration on the 9th. Is that how i should have booked it, or could i have flew down on Jan 11th? I believe there would have been a $50 fee for missing registration. Can somebody clarify this for me. Thanks

That's not true. When you do your surgery rotation you CANNOT bring your own scrubs to the hospital, you will not be allowed in the OR. Every hospital (I can only speak for US hospitals) will provide cloth scrubs or disposable paper scrubs. They may ask you to return your scrub card or revoke your scrub privileges after you finish surgery and OB/GYN. For rotations such as medicine, if you want to wear scrubs for call days, you will either bring your own or use hospital scrubs. Bottom line, if wearing scrubs is necessary for that particular field or for patient care, you will be given access to scrubs. Some hospitals are very stringent with people wearing/bring in scrubs from the outside as they feel it causes infection control issues to arise.

like I said, depends on the hospital that you go to....at my hospital (a US hospital) everyone buys their own scrubs and brings them in, and yes, to scrub in to ob (which I just finished) and surg as well. You just aren't supposed to wear them on the street to the hospital, you need to bring them in and change into them at the hospital (not that I haven't seen this rule being broken as well). And no, not every hospital will give you access to scrubs, at mine, the residents even have to fight to get the hospital to provide scrubs for them. It sounds like you got to go to some of the nicer hospitals in the SGU rotations, the downtrodden public ones don't have that kind of money to be throwing away on medical students when they can't even afford to give their residents a decent scrub allowance.
Scrub card and revoking scrub priviledges?? lol, not at my hospital!! It seems that all you need is a hospital ID and the permission of the attending to scrub in, no matter what rotation you're doing

It's not about being rich or poor, it's about following policy that keep patients safe. Hospitals have to follow regulations and can be shut down or cited if they don't. I was told bringing in scrubs not issued and deemed "clean" by the hospital for surgery and OB is a JCAHO violation. There are stringent regulations governing infection control standards, especially in an OR. Remember, JCAHO is feared in hospitals and JCAHO has cited hospitals for lesser violations.

yeah, term 5 is short but it is immediately followed with the continuation of term 6...they split it up for financial aid reasons. You don't get grades at the end of term 5, you just get a continuation into term 6, at the end of which you will be issued your final grade for those courses.
Term 5 is Pathophys I and Pharm I and term 6 goes into Pathophys II and Pharm II, so, the continuation of the same courses.
Not to be rude, but lets not hijack the OP's topic..
tried not to hijack, the OP asked about scrubs in hospitals in one of their postings, they even said it was a bit off their topic but figured I'd give them an answer anyways.
As far as the JCAHO stuff goes, not my responsibility. My hospital doesn't provide us scrubs and that's all I was trying to say. Some do, some don't, it's up to the regulating bodies to keep track of that stuff. The OP may get a scrub allowance at their hospital or they may come to mine where they will have to buy their own scrubs.
Term 7:
Term 8:
Terms 7-11 are continuous. Essentially, since you are in the Aug 08 class, you will start third year mid/late-August 2010 and will finish fourth year in May/June 2012. In that time you will need to complete 80 weeks of rotations. There is no distinction between terms (or even years), you'll just have to pay tuition at certain times.

another question:
during 3rd year, would we have winter/Christmas vacation like we do during our 1st and 2nd year (~4 weeks off)? will there be major exams to prepare for during this time or in the near future? Can we hope to plan to vacation during this break or are there exams/boards/rotations to study for/do?

once again, depends on which hospital you go to...I'm at Brooklyn Hospital Center and we get from 22 Dec - 2 Jan off. I'm not too sure what some of the other hospitals in the NY/NJ area get as breaks, maybe some more people will put up their schedules for you. I also have a friend who will be working straight through Christmas with NO break in one of his 4th year electives. You will also need to prepare for Step II CK and CS at some point during your third and fourth years, I'll probably be using some of my time off at Christmas to do this. You can also try to schedule your fourth year electives around a longer break at Christmas if you want. But, I'm just starting my third year, so I haven't actually been through this yet, maybe some students who are further along could post their experiences for you??
